And? How does you digging up the definition of "cheat" prove that?

I appreciate help of course, but Treasure Hunter being cheating and gambling are separate matters, so I'm not sure why you quoted the cheating discussion with gambling discussion.

But anyway, yeah, Treasure Hunter is gambling, and you don't even need to go out of your way to prove that, since the basic definition of gambling already proves it: to gamble is to take a risky action in the hope of a desired result. In Treasure Hunter's case, this translates into spending keys for a random chance (risky action) to hopefully get whatever prize you're after (desired result).

Sometimes people argue that real money has to be risked for the hope of getting even more real money in return for something to count as gambling, but that's just one type of gambling, and the type of gambling that's regulated; gambling in the form of Treasure Hunter hasn't been regulated yet, due to the laws not catching up with the times. Given how predatory game developers have made it, that's bound to change eventually.

Thats a wide definition. If thats the case then PvM and PvP must also be a type of gabling.

Right, and even advertising gambling in-game that's not related to Runescape is bannable (as a certain OSRS Youtuber found out the hard way), while gambling offered by Jagex is perfectly fine by them, even though their gambling service isn't any better than the services they seek to discourage. Essentially Jagex's stance is "do as we say, not as we act" when it comes to gambling rules.

That's a wide generalization, but yeah, there are other forms of gambling in the game as well, but Treasure Hunter differs from them by trying to manipulate you into spending as much extra cash as possible into its gambling system, by offering the lucrative exp rates for a nonstop extra cost, as well as hooking you into getting the super rare prizes via sunk cost fallacy ("I already spent X dollars to try and win Y super rare prize, so if I don't keep spending more, I spent those dollars for nothing").

In comparison to e.g. a rare boss drop, Jagex only gets membership subscription money from you, so their goal is to design the game to be as fun as possible, in order for them to keep getting more subscription money from you in the future.

"Gambling" is very different from illegal gambling.

You are certainly GAMBLING when you try to use your BA points to get a random prize. Jagex explicitly used the word GAMBLE there too. But it is not illegal gambling and has absolutely nothing to do with TH or MTX.

Duel Arena staking is GAMBLING and can be considered ILLEGAL GAMBLING by certain governments if Jagex do not stop players/3rd party gambling sites for exploiting it too.

Re-rolling clue scrolls, raid rewards, etc are always gambling to some people, but not illegal gambling to any real world governments. Likewise, you can tell yourself TH is gambling but shrug... it is not illegal gambling at all to any governments of the real world. :D
