Here's a list of TH items that have been advertised as tradeable rares (I haven't kept up with any that might have been released the past few months)

To me a 'rare' either means the main reward of a certain promo, or a reward that has a low drop rate from the chests. Discontinued can apply to both but only Jagex knows if the 'rare' item will be brought back or not (not just in a second chance tuesday but doing the promo over again). and will be just as sought after as the previous rainbow items - the rainbow amulet and cape - which you’ll also have a chance to get, if you don’t have them already.
Nobody wants this garbage anymore because it comes out every month. Amulet is what, 30k now?

I completely agree with Transcendent and the points he made.

On a personal note, I do come from the era when "rares" also meant "discontinued items" such as partyhats, Halloween masks, Santa hats, Easter eggs, Christmas crackers, etc but that was before SOF/TH was introduced. I think that definition changed when SOF and TH came out.

I consider SOF/TH "rares" rares for the fact that besides the promotion, there is no way to obtain them in-game unless purchasing one from a player who obtained them during the promotion, or when they decide to run the promotion again. _.•´¯`•._.•´¯`•.* D E L A Y *.•´¯`•._.•´¯`•._

Indeed, and the point of this thread is to figure out what this new definition created by Jagex means.
