You could say they're defining your backstory for you, or you could be like me, and say they're giving you guidelines for you to create your backstory.

Something to work off of, not something to be restricted by. Enough for someone who doesn't care about writing backstories to get an idea of how things started, but still lenient enough to let those who do create their own whilst using it.
You can only fully appreciate a story when you experience it through the eyes of one of its characters.

I find that the character usually has quite the mercenary mindset. what i mean is that at least before the 6th age the adventurer never had any problems with working for someone as long as they didn't back stab the adventurer as a number of people have. for example the adventurer never had any problems with helping azzandra the mahjarrat out. But overall the adventurer still has a morality code and wont work for overly evil people such as HAM and the vampyres.

To me, the adventurer has a few things in common with the Doctor of Doctor Who:

He/she has mysterious origins.

He/she is always travelling around, not content to stay in one place for too long.

He/she is always involving himself/herself in other people's problems, and fixing them and generally saving the day.

He/she can change his/her appearance on occasion.

But that's mostly where the similiarity ends. :)

Bookmarked.

Thanks for the very interesting and informative read! I had previously assumed that the bits and pieces of information regarding the Adventurer's origins were just Jagex breaking the fourth wall or random tidbits. I never really put in any significant amount of deep thought into the origins of our characters, but I had always been curious about where they came from. I never really paid attention to the references made to the Adventurer's past from NPCs and otherwise, and this post was a real eye-opener.

Props for collecting all of that information, and for backing up everything with facts and sources! :D

Hello,

I don't know if it helps and if it is true but what i guess is that alot of people in Gielinor are aware of our character excistence. For example: recently i made a new character to try ironman. I've done the new tutorial to see how it was and such.. But what i think is interesting, is when you do the quest "The Blood pact". Here Xenia (who already knows your name) needs your help to free the girl that is trapped down in the catacombe, because she is "wounded". In this catacombe there are 3 people what i remember to be followers of Zamorak. But long story short, after you finished you can tell her "you where not wounded at all" then she says something like "indeed, i wanted to see if you could do it alone" where you say "so you put my life on danger because of an experiment?" wich the interesting part is: she says: "i was about to jump in if things went wrong, BUT I KNEW YOU COULD DO THIS." now,.. how could she knew that? how did she know the character's name in the first place ? maybe she and some others know about the character's origins. And when the quest first came out i played on my main i didn't bother much about how she knew my name because i did alot of other quests then. But this was with a level 5 character. To me this seems interesting. share your thoughts.
I really like this topic because i love lore.

^ She never says your name. And the dialogue you mentioned actually goes like this:

'I was prepared to step in and rescue her if you failed, but I won't always be that ready. That's why I had to do this. The world needs heroes. I was a hero, once, but I'm not getting any younger. I need to make sure the news generation has its own heroes.'

She doesn't know who you are, she's just trying to turn people into adventurers.

She says your character name. make a new character and try it, then you can ask her how do you know my name?

+ the dialoge after that is what i said about that experiment and that she knew i could do that.

If you talk to the Herald in Falador for the first time, he'll give you a crest. IIRC, the crest is different for everybody. I received the Misthalin crest and I think he mentioned that my family was from Varrock.

One important thing to look at are the caps on our skills. I doubt that every human has the ability to attain 99 in every skill. Aside from balancing, I feel that the reason why we have level 120 Dungeoneering as a skill is that during the peak of our potential, we're meant to unravel the secrets of Daemonheim. I feel that the PC is the only person that managed to explore Daemonheim in its entirety

If I remember correctly, there are certain humans out there that have higher skills and skillcaps than us, such as Arrav. There are other humans that possess abilities that we may never possess, like quad casting elemental spells. Canon-wise, I feel that the PC's strength is the ability to do everything adequately. We know that there are individuals more magically attuned, agile, or stronger, but we're the jack of all trades

From What Lies Below:

Player (amazed chathead): Hey, your cart has no donkey!

Rat Burgiss (happy chathead): Yes, that would be because it's a rickshaw cart.

Player (happy chathead): Oh. I used to know a guy called Rick Shaw!

Rat Burgis* (neutral chathead): You don't say...!
