In Ranis's bedroom, Ivan is wounded by yet another venator. Of course, I knew he could not be dead due to being too important to the series, but even so I was quite, quite afraid for a moment. And then it was revealed: he is special because he's a descendant of the Seven Priestly Warriors (and Drezel too!). Meaning it is very fortunate Tenebra had gone only for the infants four years prior! No wonder Vanstrom and Lowerniel wanted to get their hands on him, as Veliaf said; he could be the key to bypassing the Salve barrier and he can fight vampyres relatively effectively. Good thing this remains a secret.

More creepy Vanalaan business in Vanescula's bedroom. Safalaan gives her his mother's pendant and then they have some sort of private conversation****. A couple of trophies in Lowerniel's room, and then yet another moment of utter terror. Lowerniel appears and Radigad holds him off to allow us to escape, but it ends in death for him. Three Myreque have fallen (one literally) so far - surely it cannot get any worse? Turns out it can, because the developers are evil. :(

We finally make it to the roof, but find ourselves on Vampyrium. And we fight Lowerniel's minion while Polmafi and Vanescula deal with the pylons and Ivan, wounded, stands idly by. A bit odd Lowerniel wouldn't try to do him in now, since he apparently desired to have him, but perhaps he has more important business. Having him fly around in this first fight is cool. Though it lacked flapping animation for some reason. My writing is becoming more incoherent by the sentence. Jellyfish.

Now, I have one major issue with the fight and that is Safalaan using a wind spell against Lowerniel. Apart from the fact that runes are quite precious and I doubt they are available in large numbers in Morytania but I suppose Drezel may have included some in the aid he sent or Safalaan needs none because of Icyenic powers or something, WHAT WAS HE THINKING. Using *wind* spells against an all-powerful vampyre overlord? He can FLY, you know! Even if you land a goot hit and blow him off the roof, he'll just fly back unharmed. Castimir's demonstrated fire spells are the best way to go for inflicting raw damage, and it's not exactly a conclusion requiring significant amounts of thinking, so please, Safalaan...

After the fight, Lowerniel attempts to kill Pol*afi but Vanescula takes the hit for him. She seems dead, but she probably isn't. She's already survived being stabbed with blisterwood *and* falling off the castle before, so this should be no problem. ...on the other hand, she had Malak to nurse her that other time. Oh dear.

We fight Lowerniel. Nothing to say here; the boss fight has special attacks so it's already much better than average. I like how they're all reminiscent of Vanstrom's attacks, but slightly different. The 'Graaaah!' attack was very annoying, though, because it was unavoidable and you cannot eat while stunned and bound, apparently. Wait, did I say we fight him? I meant he was playing with us - a hunter with his prey. After being brought down, he *kills Vertida* and leeches back to full health.

This was a heavy blow. Vertida always seemed robust, enduring, wise, and loyal to the edge of the world. This time, the death had no story effect whatsoever, unlike with Kael, Mekritus and Radigad. It was plainly done to make us emotionally suffer. Never for a moment had I considered the possibility Vertida might die, and I wouldn't have done it as a developer, but it happened. And I felt terrible. Absolutely terrible. An effective way to erase the concerns about potentially killing a character in the quest in which he first appears it was, though, since all I wanted was to slay Lowerniel Vergidiyad Drakan.

Finally, the portal back to RuneScape is open, but we have to leave Vertida and Vanescula behind. That was a tough moment. Very tough. Once back, Lowerniel appears yet again, knocking out everyone present, with Polmafi (as I later discovered) falling back into the portal. I refuse to believe he's dead, however - Vanescula would later say she would access Vampyrium one more time to obtain its blood supplies or something like that, and I've an inkling of hope she might have the decency to rescue Pol*afi, if he has managed to survive.

Anyway, we fight Drakan yet again and, hurray, Vanescula makes a heroic return, perforates him with his own spear and rips his wings off, before being unceremoniously knocked aside as well. After fighting berserker Drakan, it's finally over. The regent of the Sanguine fields has fallen. (but not before informing us Vanescula would betray us, of course...)

Which brings me to the next section. Vanescula's betrayal was a dead giveaway from the moment we first saw her in Branches. Nevertheless, kudos for making such a predictable moment still so shocking. Perhaps it was because Veliaf finally trusted her, perhaps because we thought it was finally over. But Vanescula imbibed herself with Safalaan's blood, revealed her plan, and took his body with him. Because he fainted or something. Yeah, er, apparently everyone thinks she killed him, but that thought didn't even cross my mind initially. As far as we know, all she did was tithe him particularly harshly and, well, a healthy half-Icyene like Safalaan should be able to survive that. And recall the private talk they had in Vanescula's bedroom; this may all have been staged.

At this point, you can feel the quest is nearing its end. Which is sort of strange, since most of it took place inside Castle Drakan, which is rather uncharacteristic for Myreque quests. But Mod Srowl*y's already said this was more similar to Branches than the Tytn quests, and the finale should hopefully resemble the other quests more in terms of gameplay, so no complaints there.

Veliaf and Ivan return to the base while I remove the sunspear from Drakan's skull. And fade-out to the base. Now that's silly, I could've easily made my own way thither, but okay. In the base, a very well-written scene takes place as Veliaf, well, breaks. Calsidiu was a lie to instill hope, and now all of us are either dead or MIA. Vampyres have slain Sani, Harold, Andiess, Kael, Mekritus, Radigad and Vertida, and the whereabouts of Flaygian, Polmafi and Safalaan are unknown. Lowerniel may be dead, but his sister, the Mistress of Darkmeyer, has always been said to be worse. The Salve offers little protection now and Misthalin will - once more - be invaded. We have failed. The Myreque are disbanded. It's over.

I think this quest provided us with the greatest sense of failure since While Guthix Sleeps, and that's quite an achievement. WGS was novel in that no quest had ever had important people that hadn't been introduced in that same quest die before. Hazelmere, our main ally in the gnome series, Cyrisus, our friend whom we saved from the brink of death, the slayer masters, the warriors...they were mercilessly slaughtered by Lucien and we could do nothing. After that, deaths like that became more common in quests, but nothing quite matched the last stand of the heroes in WGS. The World Wakes, of course, had Guthix's death, but that was mostly impactful because A) an iconic character, a god even, died on-screen and B) an emotional backstory sequence followed. Guthix's death was a powerful sequence in TWW, but not quite like that one cutscene in WGS. The Lord of Vampyrium, however, has managed to accomplish that; our allies and friends perish in a suicidal mission to kill Lord Drakan. And even though that mission succeeds in the end, it was all for naught. Vanstrom was right after all: the Myreque mean nothing, and the human lands are doomed.

So, at this point it would make sense to have to escort Ivan back to Paterdomus as is tradition, but a fade-out did the trick too. Nice to see Drezel again after he was absent in Branches, and then - yay! - Misthalin finally becomes involved once more! The conversation with Roald and Aeonis*g was brilliantly written, and we find out that Aeonis*g was actually aware of the existence of the anti-Edicts conspirators (because he's one of them!! *tin foil hat*) but had not informed the king. Well, the endgame is nearing; Edicts or no Edicts, Misthalin prepares for war (unless Aeonis** does something bad in the finale and is removed from position, casu quo Lord Mews should replace him as spiritual advisor!). And with that, and a very nice epilogue, the quest is over.

Well, I think I managed to include most of my compliments and criticisms in these posts, so here follow incoherent random comments.

For instance, Kara-Meir says she still has the Sunspear used to kill Tenebra, but how? It was still embedded in the Prince's skull when his corpse fell into the Salve. It's interesting though; Drakan owns an apparently dual-headed blisterwood spear called the Sunspear. One end was broken off and hidden in the ruins of an old Hallowvalian temple beneath the Sanguinesti, and Vanescula was aware of it. This dagger was used to wound Vanescula and kill Tenebra. Another end was broken off during the fight with Lowerniel and used to kill the overlord himself.

So, the finale has been announced for 2016. Not necessarily something I agree with; the Myreque have just had their spotlight, meaning there is more need for a gnome, desert, EW and/or pirate quest, plus we could use more time to speculate and theorise. But hey, I love the series, so it's fine for me personally, but that's selfish... So I guess I'll just present my (really long) wishlist for the quest.

First of all, all the glitchiness should be fixed to Morytania and the rest of the series before or with the final quest. I.e. make Vyrewatch consistently use melee and buff the ones in Sanguinesti like the ones in Hallowglade, fix any stretching glitches, make the blisterwood polearm use spear animations instead of maul animations, give the Ivandis flail its pre-EoC animations in Legacy and make the sickle always hang freely in EoC, fix the bugs with Vanstrom during both fights with him, buff him in the Dominion Tower (yes, again), add that one extra nail to the rubble in In Aid of the Myreque, fix the colours of the Burgh de Rott townsfolk's clothes, make Shades of Mort'ton a requirement for Legacy of Seergaze, buff everything in Temple Trekking, preferably make the reworked Dead Quiet and Shadowland separate tracks and bring the originals back in-game, make the unlisted music tracks from In Aid and Darkness listed like Vanescula Fight, etc. etc. etc. The ninja spotlight was great, but didn't cover everything.

Story-wise, I'd like the following minor plot points addressed:
- Did Pol*afi survive? Did Flaygian? (I could see a vamp*rised Flaygian serving as a miniboss à la Albertus Black just to mess with us emotionally)
- What happened to Charos?
- What does Sarius think of Vanescula now and what happened to Mauritys?
- Who wrote the decaying tome in the tunnel beneath Burgh de Rott, and what is that tunnel anyway?
- How does vamp**isation work?
- What was the daeyalt-coloured liquid leaking out of the sewers of Castle Drakan pre-Branches and did it cause the Mort'ton affliction?
- Did Sialathin and Lantania survive?
- How *did* those werewolves cross the Salve?
- What happened to Maria Gadderanks?
- What is the purpose of the huge castle in south-east Meiyerditch?
- Are Ivan's parents definitely dead?

And as for major plot points:
- Who is ????/What happened to Efaritay?
- What are Vanstrom's origins?/What happened to Ascertes?
- What happened to Safalaan?
- What have the Edicts conspirators been up to?
- What is daeyalt used for that there is a huge refinery beneath the Sanguinesti?
- What happened to the missing Burgh de Rott townsfolk? Their disappearances were acknowledged in TLoV but did not feature. I really hope they aren't all dead, that would be outright evil.

There's very likely going to be a Third Battle of the Salve, so it'd make sense to evict the Zamorakians from Paterdomus to allow the temple to serve as a base, and make sure the vampyre upstairs remains dormant. There's also the beacon network, which should be ignited. I doubt Lumbridge and the Kinshra are going to help this time, though.

Finally, characters that haven't been mentioned before (apart from the obvious, e.g. Roald, Veliaf, Drezel, Ivan, Vanescula etc.):
- Malak: As I said, he has never been important in the series, but he is a very important noble and Vanescula still owes him. He really should feature in some capacity, however minor.
- Curpile: He's still guarding the Hollows... Really, something should be done about him.
- Kara: I reckon she would volunteer to fight in the battle at the very least, if only as a cameo. Doric too, perhaps, but characters who have not been introduced before, such as Gar'rth, probably shouldn't appear. He in particular should star in a werewolf spinoff quest, which is becoming ever more likely.
- Karnac: So this shouldn't become a novelpalooza and feature mostly existing characters, but it would be nice for Karnac to at least be referenced. He's a Myreque member and he's in Misthalin, so the logic is there. If Roald mobilises his military, I reckon the Society of Owls, Gideon & Rovin could get at least a reference too.
- Reldo: He could be of great help, serving as an advisor to Roald.

I hope the finale is like In Aid of the Myreque and Darkness of Hallowvale. Exploring, having to traverse dangerous terrain, cross-referencing clues discovered in various sources to be able to progress, and great dialogue. It'd also be really nice for a memorial to be erected for all the fallen Myreque in the struggle against the vampyres.

Finally, I really hope the finale will not feature any choices e.g. regarding the fate of Vanescula or the vampyre race. The massacre of the Myreque in TLoV was evil, but at least there is some comfort in the fact that it was all part of the story written by the developer. Not unlike characters dying in books, there was nothing you could to do save them. Otherwise you'd feel even worse. Let's just have one canonical story that's the same for everybody (preferably in every quest, but we're digressing).
