Mauritys reveals more on his work on haemalchemy, and particularly on his works to develop an alternative source for human blood (which he thought Drakan would find more palatable). He claims to have perfected a domesticated bloodveld, which he will show us when he's sufficiently recovered.
Mauritys also provides the next echo, which activates right in the room to show Vanstrom torturing Flaygian Screwte before a horrified Mauritys. We learn in the memories that Vanstrom captured the researcher, after feeling like his plan for supporting the Myreque was spiralling out of control, and, to his chagrin, had it confirmed that Safalaan was at its head.
The final echo comes from us, the player, and leads us back to Vanstrom's manse. An imperative had come down from Ranis to every vyrewatch - bring Safalaan back alive. Vanstrom knew they would do to his son what they did to him - turn him into a monster; but rather than a superior being of strength and reason, this would be a beast of pure rage - a wyrd. Even with his humanity nothing but a hazy shadow on the edges of his being, Vanstrom could not abide this, and endeavoured to kill Safalaan, swiftly, before he could be turned.
At this point, Raispher enters, disturbed by reports that a Paterdomus monk lies dead by our hand. When we protest, and declare Hiylik's involvement with the Splinter Group and encouraging insurrection, Raispher claims, as humans, we should support it. Vampyrism is a disease, and those who cannot be cured must be purged. We treated it as such when we supposedly liberated Morytania.
He reveals his hand. With the Edicts broken, the conspirators have disappeared into the woodwork. The paradise that was supposed to accompany Saradomin never materialized, and even now Morytania is beneath the gods' concerns. By stoking war, genocide, he will give Saradomin no choice but to intercede. That's why he tainted the blood supply with rage-inducing compounds.
