Cool thread; hopefully newer players find this before falling victim to any of it! I remember several years ago I almost fell for a scam that involved an anti-fire mix (one of the barbarian potions). The player asked me to buy X-amount for say 5,000 gp each because he reached the GE limit. I was pretty skeptical, but nonetheless I did have the offer in the GE and all I had to do was press accept (thinking I was just doing a nice thing for him), but at the last second I came to my senses and exited out of the offer and told him I wasn't able to do the trade.

The way he was trying to push me to go through with it, and the fact that the mix had close to no use gave away the scam, but it was certainly the closest I had come to falling for one. It's a scam I rarely see done, but be careful with people asking you to buy obscure items in the GE!

BEWARE OF THE CORP SCAM. I got scammed out of my bandos chest plate the other day.

What happened was someone showed me 50m in the trade screen and asked me to follow them. They said they were doing a free give away, so i followed. The dude, lets call him pker123.

Pker123: I'm doing a free give away, here teleport to the barbarian outpost.
Trades me a games necklace. As soon as i accept, someone runs up and says "omg pker123 your still trying to scam? Maly, don't do it it's a scam, pm me"

So pker123 by that point had teleported to barb outpost. Let's call the new guy, 123pker. He tells me that pker123 is going to give me a seed and some cash and not to click the seed because it will teleport me to the grand tree, so i was like um okay i wont click it.

So i goto barb outpost and pker123 said get good items and show me, and ill double the gp worth so i showed him bandos chest plate and he said to follow him to corporeal beast and to bring the item. He said hes going to give me cash and a seed and to click the seed because its "fireworks" At this point i thought i knew what was up and that it would actually teleport me.

Anyways i teleport to corperal beast, he tells me to join his cc, and go inside the portal. So i do. Inside he trades me, shows me 35mil gp, and says this is round 1. He repeated he was going to give me a seed and to click it as soon as i get it. So he tells me to drop my items and trade him so he can give me the seed and the cash and me being an idiot i dropped them and then he kicked me out of the cc and then that in turn kicked me out of the portal where my items were on the ground.

also, 123pker, was him on another account reinforcing the scam. There never was a seed involved.

I call it the corp scam. There is videos on youtube about it.

I haven't been very active in the community so I saw this thread and how many people have found it useful, and I figured it'd be a good place to start, especially since I recently was scammed with a new method I had not seen before.

Often on members servers, users will pretend to double or triple money in "1 trade". However, if they aren't offering you money in the trade this is a scam, and I'll describe it in detail below.

• Doubling or Tripling in "1 Trade" - This is a scam where players take advantage of crashing "rare" items on the market and attempt to get you to trade them a large amount of gold for items that appear to be worth more than they really are. If a player is offering to increase your gold in 1 trade by trading you items that appear to be worth a lot, this more than likely means that they are scamming you, and the items they are trading are not worth what they appear to be worth.

Common items affected by this scam are master clue scroll rewards because the Grand Exchange marks some of them as worth anywhere from 2m to 10m+ when they are only being bought and sold for 500k or often much less making it nearly impossible to get your money back from selling them.
