If someone tries to trade you an item, especially a newer item or something that has very little demand, beware that the Grand Exchange value may be overstated significantly. For instance, it will say an item is worth 10m when in reality, it's worth 500k due to the extremely low volume of trades. Someone I know has fallen victim to such a scam, believing he was being paid with an item the Grand Exchange claimed was worth 3 times what he traded away. When he finally sold it, he got a mere 20% of the value of the item he traded to the scammer.
In short, beware of rarely traded items with overstated Grand Exchange values and don't get greedy. You're just going to lose a lot of money with an item you'll end up selling at a massive loss, IF you even sell it!
On one note, thank goodness Ironmen don't have to worry about such scams since the whole no trading rule pretty much protects them from the bulk of item scams.
