Original message details are unavailable.
This seems like common knowledge to me as a Runescape player... who actually falls for this stuff under normal circumstances?

Some people are not very knowledgeable of the game, some are new players.

Butterfly,

Just be patient. If he has been reported once then he will be dealt with soon. Multiple reports of this player will only result in slower action being taken against his account.

Reports take a bit of time to be looked at, and with RS3 recently being launched, the Jmods are a bit more focused on the main game a the moment. Once the hype dies down they will get back to Old School and start dealing with reports faster. Patience my dear.

Thanks for making this thread. This is a serious problem in OSRS, I can honestly say I've seen more scams in this game than I have in the last 10 years combined (playing on and off). It's quite disheartening but hopefully it will get better soon.

I fell victim to a scam yesterday and can't believe I fell for it. I accepted an offer upon checking the price guide (I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mention the price guide - please remove if not allowed) and seeing that it was a pretty good offer based on the average price listed on the guide. However, I didn't take the time to carefully look at the times, etc, and realize that the sell/buy offers were fake. Scammers are posting fake ads to inflate prices. Watch out for this one, guys. Two items I know of are Rune Satchels and Mort Myre Stems.

I just wanted to confirm this so I know for sure: It's OK to report scammers when they haven't successfully scammed you, right?

Scenario 1: You put up a phat, the buyer says that his friend is buying for a price higher than you're asking, puts up teleports and accepts, tells you to tele to that location to meet the friend... hoping that you'll either trust him or that you've forgotten/don't notice that you already put your phat up in the trade screen.

Scenario 2: You put up a phat. The buyer puts up the price you're asking, quickly removes it and accepts. Then quickily declines it when you don't accept right away. This one happens CONSTANTLY. I've only reported the ones where I was the first to decline.

Thanks!

I believe it is okay to report scamming if the scammer doesn't succeed in scamming you, and I would hope that would be the case, rather than having to be scammed just to have the scammers punished. I'd go ahead and report them for the attempt.

I don't know if I posted this before or not, but be wary of low leveled accounts. Not trying to make a sweeping generalization like
ALL level 3s are scammers
but generally speaking from experience, low level or new accounts are a red flag. First of all, how would a level 3 acquire a high level item? Granted, they COULD be merchanting. But at least those aren't the ones trying to scam you.

One I've been seeing a lot lately is someone spamming to look up something and it ends up stealing your account. Pretty much, it just comes down to common sense and not going to look up someone on another site.

Pretty much I exercise very high caution. The moment I think anything is a scam I immediately remove myself from the situation. I had problems getting a Glory at one point because of this; someone wanted me to trust trade and I was like No, you give me a Glory for a Dragonstone Amulet and runes or get lost scammer .

Sorry if I sound cynical saying this, but trust NOBODY.
