I support the part about voting. I don't think 30% is a reasonable number when talking about 'the community having a voice'. I believe that the ideal would be to increase this number to at least 60%. If the vast majority decide that they would like to have a new skill then I think it's fair to continue with the progress.

Sadly the poll will pass this time because "the majority wants it" . And there is the problem . Anyone want to openly discuss what this majority really is ? Yes , you guessed it right , it's the relatively new players and the relatively new maxcapers who started after 2016. With their sick mentality of "give me something new , anything because i'm bored , no context needed"
You know the most famous quote about osrs . You never quit you just take breaks . Well , that can be said only about the old players . The game had ~200k players back in 2016 , now it has over 1mill . When you're Jagex ,you can afford to lose 50k-100k old players that will be unhappy with updates they don't want , as long as you keep the rest of the 1mill happy . Money makes the world go round after all . Personaly?Ofc i also voted no . First because we have no idea what we are voting for yet . After we get specifics i will do my duty with voting in future polls , feedback etc . But if the new skill is gonna be combat related (leading to more unnecessary powercreep) , if it's gonna be another moneysink ( to the people who believe that the game needs more moneysinks i wish you the worst , we got Nex and Toa in 2022 which was a 3bill moneysink combined, do you really think there's room for more?) or last but not least if it comes earlier than summer 2024 , then a lot of people are quitting and never coming back , you better believe it

Same, voted no. here's why...

Jagex didn't offer ideas first for such gamechanging (or gamebreaking) content would be.

Even if we get to choose the skill, many players have a bad idea of what is good for game (IE: adding the grand exchange, worst decision ever made).

Only skill that I could see being useful, would be something social. Not just another grind that reduces achievement.

Unless skill was social (or, possibly took serious skill to train) would do more damage than good. Zezima quit because the game became too easy after all.
_____

"Original Runescape", became popular from being the IRC (chatroom) of games. It's social nature is what made it thrive. Achievements are starting to become all that's left (after adding the grand exchange) from what we remember of the nature of the game. If you take away achievements, we have nothing left.

Even if the skill only minorly reduces achievements, it's a bad path to take for the future of the game.

That's why I say no to OSRS 2
_____

You can already tell the game has changed by stuff only we would remember. OOTC clan doing cabbage bombs in populated RS areas (literally red dots everywhere), friendly pmods who would spend 2 hours teaching you how to do something simple, the way the community came together with their voices (like riots), merchanting which taught many children fast typing skills and possibly even marketing, and the adventure in finding niche items you needed for a quest, players all over the map not just localized areas. Just some examples of how the nature of RS has already changed from social (to more achievment based).

I highly support Jagex adding a new skill to the game. If OSRS never got any updates after it's release people would likely have stopped playing already. Imo they are doing a great job handling this and drawing out the roadmap for the introduction of the new skill.

At the end of the day you could always decide to not train it if you really dislike it

It's hardly different to adding new bosses, new raids, new quests, new equipment, new training methods, new minigames etc. It comes down to you either want new content or you don't. This game was never meant to stay exactly the same and that is not what the majority want either as shown by the Poll results every month

If you guys want major new content go to rs3. I been a player of both for many years and it's a slippery slope once you start adding major new content like skills pretty soon osrs will be low def rs3. If the game is souly depending on one new skill to save it then it's already dead

Yeah new skills in RS3 have been miserable Dung-Arch this will be no different, if it passes i wont even bother to train it until i come across a quest or something that requires it. (looks at hunter level)
OSRS - Filled with harassers sad...~

I voted no. Don't care how good the new skill's rewards are, don't care if it's been 9 years and no skill. The game is going to be osrs in name only if a new skill gets added. Especially if dungeoneering or summoning are considered. Why is the poll for the new skill not 75% threshold? This is a massive content suggestion that needs a higher yes threshold since it's so divisive. All other polls can be 70% idc, but raise up the poll for new skill back to 75%. I hope there are more ppl out there who feel the same way and will vote no. I'm going to say the cliche phrase: "Who asked?" Who exactly asked for a new skill in osrs and not in rs3? This is why we need no update osrs servers. With that nowhere on the horizon, I will always vote no to new skills so max cape doesn't take longer and so I'm not forced to spend 200m just to get it to 99.

You should've listened to me, lol

I guess I should have, I haven't really been paying attention to other threads in the osrs section

I'm not against the game getting updates. I understand it needs them for engagement. New quests, sure. New minigames, new pvp updates, new areas, new monsters sure. This is the first new skill poll I was able to vote in as I missed the previous skill polls, and thus I voted no. If they had another polled question where they asked if we got a new skill, should we get no update servers for those who want the classic experience and don't want to play osrs with a new skill? I'd still vote the same and this would at least show they care about the players who want the closest possible 2007scape experience.
