They will certainly announce a new skill. It is OSRS's Hail Mary to pray for new players will come. However, those who think it will be a long time before we will actually see the new skill is right. Like all those crowd funded games, as long as OSRS keeps failing to attract new players, they aren't going to release their hyped content.

Whatever skills they are going to implement may not be too significant too, as they are selling the hype, not the skill. We have already seen OSRS taking 4 months to just release their 3 skill proposals without any concrete designs to show.

I don't believe they have shown any new players why they should play OSRS instead of all those much better quality games in 2023, not that modern games who have seen everything in the industry still want to invest in a crowd funding project anyway. Those who are in the small consultancy group to the devs hopping to make money from a new skill will be very disappointed.

We are only at stage 3 of 10 of the journey to getting a new skill to beta, then there probably will be a lot of testing, failures and amends there before it is finally released.

The obvious question is will we get all these done in 2023 when it already took us 4 months to reach just the 3rd of 10 of pre-beta stages of that journey of the new skill? And what are your expectations on the quality of the new skill in such a short development frame?

I don't know how to vote when I don't even know what I am voting for.

I will like to see a skill in OSRS, but I don't want to vote YES for a skill only to see a minigame pretending to be a skill in RS3 just like what we see the rocky start of Dungeoneering in RS3.

If the "skill" OSRS is Dungeoneering they will just copy from RS3, which I absolutely think it is predetermined, then NO, it is not a skill. It is just a minigame like a multiplayer Gauntlet with only people selling floor and account services.

If it is a real skill like Summoning in RS3, or Warding/Sailing as OSRS proposed in the past, I will say yes.

I am really not surprised to see the "majority" of OSRS players picked Sailing the minigame, as OSRS is basically an abomindation of minigames/game modes anyway.

Even the OSRS team admitted the concerns of Sailing being a minigame:

"We’ve already taken on board early feedback about community deal-breakers, such as the navigational mechanics and the concern that the skill will feel like a minigame"

Also as I predicted the community is very divided anyway, Sailing only gathered 36% of the votes. It would have failed using the old system with 75% of the votes required.

There will be a fair share of players voting this too:

"I didn't like any of them"

12.4% , not that high

It is more than 1/3 of the the 36% votes for Sailing. In the old system, even if there were only 2 choices between Sailing and Taming, Sailing would have still failed since it didn't get 75% of all votes.

You're not evaluating these numbers properly. The second question was just "Which is your favorite?" not "Which would you be okay seeing?"

If you want to make an argument about the numbers, you'd have to use the first poll for individual skill opinion, because that gives you the total % of players who would like to see each skill added, and Sailing got nearly 60% support. Still not the required 70%, but we still have months, if not over a year of feedback and refinement to try and win those players over.

If they introduce more than a few items and new mechanics to the game, they probably will be still designing it near the end of 2024.

And..? You're upset about devs taking their time and fine tuning balance of new content..? If it takes that long I'll be more confident that things will be less likely to launch broken. I'd be concerned if the skill came out this year, as that just screams "rushed content" to me.

Based on the many concerns on Sailing expressed in social media which the OSRS team admitted, I expect the next few phases of development and refinements won't be smooth sail at all.

Anyway, OSRS is just selling the hype, not really the skill. I think they will rather have a long refinement cycle instead of releasing something only about one third of their players voted for. The more refined the requirements of Sailing are, the smaller their potential targets become. It is actually bad news, especially when hardly any new players is hyped by a minigame in an old MMO, and the targets are already getting smaller after they selected the new skill.

One would have expected a lot of players jumping for joy after a new skill is announced finally after more than 4 months of all talking. Well... the reality is actually more criticisms than discussions on what we will actually see from Sailing. Many of these criticisms came from players who actually voted for Sailing.

The community either doesn't want a skill or they don't know what they want in a skill like Sailing or doubt if what they will actually see what they want.

Dont you guys know the quote "You think you do but you dont" look at Wow classic, after few months of hype and feels goodman nostalgia, the player count says it all 120m vs 27m according to Dexerto(Dont know how reliable). QOL is a important thing and new features also.
It is dangerous i admit to release such a huge change, because Jagex has numerous times stated that they wont ever remove content from the game, because it makes a dangerous precident, where by complaining enough you can dictate the removal of content.

So it will stay until the end of times.
Never update Draynor village willows Jagex :)

Practically, none of the 3 proposed skill received more than 60% votes for going forward for refinements. Actually there was a question in today's livestream about why they didn't need to pass the 70% threshold on the concept of a skill for it to go to the refinement stages. OSRS's response pointed to development limbo so they used a different polling system to make this skill passed.

Sailing is selected as the next skill to work on, but practically less than 60% of the players (including those who voted for it) approved the concept of it.
