How to know which name is going to be released? I've been looking for one, I can add it to my friends list, but I cant find that account on hiscores so will name be released on this kind of situation? Im kinda confused.. O_o

I'm in the same situation. You should also check tracking websites and the OSRS HiScores. If you can't find it then it means it's permbanned for some reason and probably won't be released. I'm still gonna try when they day comes but I doubt it'll work if it doesn't have a 'playerhash' ([#ABC123]-thing) by now. They're still punishing legit players by not releasing banned names from some RWT-kiddie that probably doesn't play this game anymore. Shame.

My assumption is that by doing one letter per day, it spreads out the "hype factor" so that the systems aren't bogged down when thousands and thousands of players are all trying to change their names at the same time. It minimizes the possibility of problems keeping anyone from being able to change their name.

Interesting idea, but I do have a minor concern. When you say "inactive" accounts, do you mean accounts that have been permamently banned, or accounts where people haven't logged in for a while?
Because if it's the latter, then it may cause issues for those veterans who seek to return, like myself. I cannot imagine my frustration of trying to rejoin the game years later only to find that my account name had been taken by someone else.

Not necessarily. Day one will be names starting with the letter A, but day two could be any other letter of the alphabet, or numbers. It mentions that it'll be announced with each day's name release.


Edit: Oops scratch that, I think I misinterpreted that part.

This. I've tried to find that player from runetracker and I was able to see stats. Tried to update stats and whole account just "dissappeared" from runetracker. Cant find it from osrs and rs3 hiscores, but name is still on my friends list. Most likely its banned account.

If you're able to add the name to your friends list, it means that it's currently associated with an account. All of the inactive names have already been freed up in preparation for the name release.
