Is it possible that this would open up the opportunity for Jagex to create a version of RuneScape for the Asian market without it hindering the main game? Someone else mentioned on another site how WoW has a separate Chinese version of the game because games can't depict bones in China. Considering bones play a pretty large role in the main game, they could possibly create servers that change that mechanic for Chinese players.

These servers could be separate from the main game, their economies wouldn't connect at all. It allows Jagex to create a more microtransaction-intensive style of play that falls in line with the Asian gaming market without it hindering their Western market. Call of Duty has done this with the introduction of Call of Duty Online, a game for Chinese players that is very heavy on the microtransactions.

China is know for having lots of goldfarmers and pay to win content in games, so I'm sure nothing good will become of the game. Well only good thing is that I will finally be able to get my life back.

The fact that a Chinese iron ore and mining company is acquiring Jagex itself isn't too concerning, since diversification is a solid business move--but what we're all concerned about is how much creative control Jagex will have over Runescape, as well as how much say it'll have in regards to content that'll affect its customers.

Anytime you acquire something, you're interested in its potential, and human nature would be to maximize that potential. However, great intents (happier and more customers --> more profit) may result in poor decisions with massive repercussions (RS being so-called ruined) if resulting decisions uneducated.

Jagex has proven itself to have made educated decisions, but I'd hope that being acquired by a mining company more familiar with China than it is the western hemisphere won't detract from Jagex being able to make continued educated decisions.

I can't link it on the RSOF. But Google "Jagex", and you'll see.
The chinese company is called: "Shandong Hongda"

read the article, doesn't tell me anything except what jagex says here

I honestly think that'd be a powerful business move, making Runescape accessible to Asian gamers, which I've also mentioned on a thread asking for Japanese translations about a month ago. I know that microstransactions are essentially the norm in Asian servers for a lot of international games, and Runescape can really ride on that culture.

But yes, because the gaming cultures are fairly different, Asian servers (and hiscores) would probably have to be separate from the current Runescape servers.

I need to start with OSRS asap!

You do realise the new investors could order OSRS to have microtransactions?

If they put more microtransactions into OSRS the players will quit, guarunteed.

the Asian market will replace those that quit.
