If a Chinese Company were to invest in Jagex and thus potentially attract more Asian gamers, could there be a possibility that there could be a Runefest in Asia? I know that's a far off question and could only be discussed if the Chinese Company were to acquire Jagex.

Is it possible that this would open up the opportunity for Jagex to create a version of RuneScape for the Asian market without it hindering the main game?
I honestly think that'd be a powerful business move, making Runescape accessible to Asian gamers, which I've also mentioned on a thread asking for Japanese translations about a month ago. I know that microstransactions are essentially the norm in Asian servers for a lot of international games, and Runescape can really ride on that culture.

But yes, because the gaming cultures are fairly different, Asian servers (and hiscores) would probably have to be separate from the current Runescape servers.

Yep, I agree. I think separating the servers would actually be beneficial to Jagex. It allows them the opportunity to tap into another large demographic, appealing to the norms of that demographic without it having much effect on the main game. They'd be able to make the money from the large amount of microtransactions that will be placed on the Chinese servers without it hurting the game that appeals most to their Western gaming market.

It seems like a win-win. Asian players get a game that more closely resembles the system they're accustomed to, and Western players get the same game they've become accustomed to, while Jagex reaps the monetary benefits from both.

I know nothing about Jagex's financial side. I really want to trust Jagex's judgement here, but I have too many mixed feelings about this transfer of ownership.

Two questions:

1) How much control (if you have any right now) will the current employees of Jagex have on the content created (quests, events, yada yada yada) after the Chinese company acquires you. Will they have complete control on the content created, or will you have some say?

2) Does it mean that the HQ will be relocated to China?

Does this mean Mining gets a very big update soon? :P

On a serious note though, will this change anything to the game as it is at the moment?
I mean, I hope the community won't be forced to change by this.

Right all you old vets. Get out. We're sick of you whining about our microtransactions. We decorated them with pretty treasure chests and said we weren't selling gold, but you wouldn't shut up. So we're kicking all of you out, and replacing you with 5 year olds who will steal their mom's credit cards to buy any and all the **** we release.

2016 will be the year RuneScape gets overpowered. We're throwing balance out the window. Everything is about to become unimaginably OP. We'll sell 200M XP in any skill you want for only $5.99. We'll let you ban people and take everything in their bank for only $10 each. And if you give us $20, we'll give you a weapon that will one shot any monster in the game. We'll sell you 1 trillion gp for $499.99. Heck, we'll sell you admin for $4999.99. And for you poor **** out there, we'll cut your xp to 1% of the norm.

RuneScape won't die; in the next few years, we'll see the biggest growth we've seen since release. RuneScape will go from a £300M company to a £10B company. We're gonna make bank.

From a theoretical business standpoint, that sounds perfect. :P

The major downside I see is not the time spent translating everything, but how the clever items and quips in quests and in Gielinor in general (including examine messages) would likely get lost in translation. And that creativity is what makes Runescape so special, and why players care so much about it.

As such, I'm not sure what about Runescape would really appeal to continued Asian players, since people care about the hiscores because they'd be visible, because Runescape has such a large player base because a lot of people like it for its charm and creativity. And no kidding that training skills can be grindy.
