Ya'll are too busy being doom and gloomy. You think an aquisiting company would get anything out of the deal if they somehow tried to profit from the game by introducing additions that would scare away it's player base? Get realistic.

You must not have read too carefully. Give it a re-read and try again!

Jagex is in early stage discussions with the firm in question, but we must stress that they may – or may not * materialise into anything. However, should they come to fruition, it would potentially allow us access to the Asian marketplace to a high level.

It will also allow them access to us at a very high level.
And to Jagex policies and staff.

We will be living in ..... interesting times.

You mean like IVP did?

They're probably gonna maintain IVPs angle.

Does anyone else think this business deal has more to do with the Runescape Mobile game that's coming out, more than the base game?

I mean, it makes sense since MXT mobile games are HUGE in china. I'm honestly not worried at all about changes to Runescape. This is all probably preparation for their mobile game.

It's actually "Shandong Hongda Mining Co Ltd". There are a number of "Shandong Hongda" companies out there, so make sure you're looking at the correct one.

Yes, the news is naming them as a loss-making company, as they have reported a loss of $55m for 2015 (last year's financial reports are not available yet, so we can only go by what they have stated right now), however, they are a substantial company, with over $2 billion in assets, and a revenue stream of around $400m - $600m per year (as seen from previous financial reports).
Thank you

for the information. That helps to put things in perspective, and that lack of context is what concerns a lot of folks.

The only way you can save Runescape is to sell to a company that has EXPERIENCE in gaming, movies or other forms of entertainment. Selling to a Chinese MINING company that is already in DEBT? ...Runescape is sinking, and if it's sold to them, many more players will quit. As a result the Chinese company will need to find more ways to earn money. This means more micro transactions, and probably selling gp directly. They will alienate the rest of the players, and put the final nail in the coffin.

It's no longer speculation.. Runescape really is dying. For good this time.

They might make Jagex take controversial positions like IVP did, where profit might go against player will. But none of those things actually destroyed the game. The 70k player count is proof of that.

But people are acting like this Chinese company will bring RS crashing into the ground. That's ridiculous.
