Sounds just like what I heard last year. And the year before, and the year before. Fact of the matter is, Runescape was able to run just fine with ads for free players and membership fees for the additional content.
Selling XP and items is wrong for the same reason RWT is wrong, which should really go without saying. Now, I've been playing since 2004, and yes, I got mad when the wildy was gone, and over trade restrictions, and was incredulous about the grand exchange, but I kept playing. But acting like EA won't win you any fans. Next you'll be removing content and charging for expansion packs that contain the pieces you removed... if you actually do that, I won't be surprised, but this post will serve as an "I told you so".
So thanks for the words, MMG, but to be fair, I've stuck with you guys through thick and thin, and this isn't like that. You're ruining this game in the worst way possible, by destroying each of the pieces that made it special;
The immersion. Graphics were awful in 2004, but I didn't care, it was immersive because of how serene it was. Now I have things jolting me out of my reverie every 5 minutes, with my FTP accounts it's pushy, in-game advertisements, with my member accounts it's over the top emotes and notifications of new content etc. etc. Leave me be, I'm here to play, not to be bombarded with cheap commercialism. That's what television is for.
The balance. This game was the only, and most perfectly, balanced game I ever played, all the way through 2010. A wonderful combination of combat, skilling, and questing was what made this game truly amazing. Now, that balance has been tipped in more ways than I can mention, cash stores, random XP giveaways, and over-dependency on your latest content. Don't force me into doing something just to keep up, Jagex, ~entice~ me to your new content.
The lack of politics. I shouldn't even have to make this post, if you were doing your job right, we'd be playing, not complaining.
So long, good luck.
