It was said from the release of Rs2, that RSC would receive no updates to keep the game as it was. They didn't specifically state that the game would close in Aug 2018. But you agreed to their terms and conditions that things may change and they reserve the right to close down their own products.
Every update? Every glitch? Every bot ban?
Jagex are constantly protecting the economy in both OSRS and RS3. They flat out ban people who are involved in glitches where profit is gained as that negatively effects the economy. They even perform rollbacks if it is deemed necessary.
With the items such as the classic cape and veteran capes in place, it does seem like sentimentality is not the driving force of the argument.
- Well back then in 2004 there wasn't that condition/"vision", it was one of the changes that came afterwards, which is the second piece of why people kept rares on RSC (the first being that the game was not said that it would shut down).
You are right I did agree under that controversial change, as much as any other player. As a result I placed less commitment with them. If that is the road they want to build sure I prefer though those companies that commit more with their players.
You know what made me agree despite the controversial T&C changes they have placed over the years to have a larger win (Jagex)/lose (players)? The feeling that they wanted to care for loyal players.
- You are covering distinct aspects for the rares economy. I was advocating that unfortunate events which affected the price of discontinued items fast was neglected. The exploiting glitch and bot bans are distinct in that it normally can be done by anyone.
I cannot advocate on item transfer since to me it was meaningful a dragon sword which in RS3 or OSRS just gets lost in tenths or hundreds of those. As far as Classic cape not being able to play it is depressing

So what do we get a thank you for being loyal with us but you are no longer getting your favorite game. And for new players, the ability to no longer see how was Runescape. Even historians and server replicators to their best ability can't fill that gap which is sad. But yea as stated in OP sadly under new Jagex none of their games are exempt of getting trashed.
Have you read the terms and conditions even once in the time you have been playing?
I'd also steer away from 3rd party copies of the game, they are illegal and Jagex would not take kindly to people advertising them on the forums.

* Although I do not have to explain myself to someone like you I will do it since I have courtesy. Yes I have, specially those back in the day. Please refrain yourself for personal bait/lure questions in the future.
You are perfectly fine with your Jagex, even under the most controversial things.
I haven't seen any advertisements but like Yin Yang if there is a villain there is a hero.
