Thankfully we have more information on the proposal of the 3 new skills from four (4) OSRS Jmods yesterday:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1778103861
Clearly, they have very little information regarding Shamanism.
Basically, they told us they have the idea of mobs dropping hell hound claws and such, that we can turn into something hopefully useful. Well, we already have these things like Kraken Tenacle which we use to augment a whip to improve its quality, and yet without a new skill out of it.
They also gave us a little piece of their minds on their appreciations of RS3's Invention skill in strengthening the latter's economy. So they may be looking into getting OSRS playes to hopefully voluntarily dissembling items to create better items. Again, they said it is just an idea at its earliest stages. They don't know what items to break down and what items they can improve, and they aren't sure if OSRS will think it worthwhile.
Well, this is a major point. Shamanism is described as a non-buyable skill which players grind and gather items, unlike Invention in RS3 where players buy their materials and forfeit gp and alchable. Essentially, Shamanism has very limited potential to drain gp or generic items out of the bloated OSRS economy. A primary gathering and grindy skill isn't remotely Invention in RS3 and doesn't serve the purpose to sink gp and items of Invention in RS3.
Rest assured they can augment items like adding a forthmentioned Hell Hound Claw to another item, similar to augmenting a whip with a Kraken Tenacle, however that's pretty much about it. Thankfully, they don't seem to be interested in RS3-ish perks that require different combat mechanics. Imagine how bad and useless mimic "planted feet" perk like "Bonus to accuracy the longer you stand still." would be... well, we know moving around is one of the 2 core mechanics of the extremely simple OSRS legacy combat... with the other mechanics being prayer flicking.
