'Runescape' Is Having a Pride Event, and Players Plan on Rioting

Things just went from bad to worse. Good gravy, I don't mean to spill the tea here but this article sure has made the rounds on the internet. Tbh, this has gone way past the normal amount of crazy.

The article appears to have spread like wildfire & has been posted to a wide variety of LGBTQ sites either in its original form or a chopped up version of it. Not to mention that it has also been plastered all over Facebook too. Don't kid yourself in thinking that the article has just made the rounds in the English speaking community, no, lol, it has been translated in more languages than I care to count.

The version of the article on PinkNews Gaming is titled "Video gamers ‘riot’ over RuneScape’s LGBT Pride event". It caught my attention for several reason, one being that it went as far as to try make the comparison of the response of the RS community to the event as being reminiscent of "GamerGate".

In addition the article provided "An image from the event shared on Reddit appeared to show messages claiming that being gay is a “disease” and that “God Hates Fags”. Not sure how that image could have been from the event since the event hadn't even occurred at the time that this article was published.

Oh wait, I did say it went from bad to worse didn't I? Well it did. Not only is that article or a chopped up version of it making the rounds through the LGBTQ communities it is also making the rounds through the Far Alt Right communities too.

From last months PR blunder that had World60pengs trending on Reddit to this months PR blunder, one can only speculate & wonder what is really going on here? There is absolutely no reason for this self-induced bombardment of negative publicity that continues to tarnish the RuneScape brand. Negative publicity such as this tends to alienate & divide Jagex's loyal customer base.

Some folks have asked me why the RS3 community should care about what is going on with OS RS community, well here is my answer, Jagex is the company, RuneScape is the brand & we are all RuneScape gamers. When negative publicity is generated under the banner of RuneScape, it effects all of us.

It is worthwhile to mention that there is some indication that a similar type event may be forthcoming on RS3 too.



I am sure all will agree that notification of a longer duration than what was given to the OS community would be a good thing if Jagex plans on a similar event in the future. Hopefully Jagex will not utilize the same method of ignoring the customers until the last possible moment that had appeared to have been utilized in the days leading up to the OS Pride 2017 event & that there will be an open dialog between Jagex & its customers next time.

One thing that I can suggest, because it was really noticeable after reading some of the statements made by Jagex regarding the OS Pride 2017 event, is that it would probably be helpful & worthwhile in the future for all spokespersons to actually take the time to research the topic more fully rather than come off sounding like they were reading catch phrases off of a cue card.

Hello, welcome to RuneScape Official Fourms!

After almost a month of reading content that appears to be best suited to off-site platforms rather than on a gaming forum utilized by a global community it is a wonder that it took so long for someone to just come right out & say the word ridiculous.

If the individual thought that what they were reading on that thread was ridiculous I can gladly point them to a host of other threads posted throughout RSOF this past month that, IMO, are far worse.

RSOF for the past month has hosted content that can be best described as being misogynistic, Islamophobic, racist, nationalistic, homophobic, & a slew of other "listics" that you wouldn't expect to find on a gaming forum that is used by a global community.

No one has to go any further than RSOF now in order to discuss their opinions on sexuality, race, national origin, gender, immigration status, politics, religion, or share ideologies that range from the far alt right to the left.

It didn't appear to me that anyone was left out when it came to being insulted or marginalized or being subject to what could be described in some cases as being radicalized ideology preferences & stances.

It is disappointing to see RSOF being used as a platform to direct users to off-site platforms that are known as being springboards for ideologies that marginalize those that do not share those same ideologies, or race, politics or religion.

According to Mod Kalaya's reply on the Forum Rules Trial Ending Today thread by Aeroxmaster (Qfc 345-65921023), CM will be 'putting up a post on our decisions this week' regarding if the new forum rule will stay in place or not.

We will all have to wait & see tomorrow if 'ridiculous hyperbole' becomes the new norm on RSOF.
