Speculation
There was a bit of speculation about who was going to be chosen to participate in the Menaphos Insiders experiment. Some folks thought that those that were going to be chosen to be Menaphos Insiders would fall into the category of being high profile account holders, popular streamer or someone with a huge social media following.
It wasn't a bit surprising to see folks think in those terms because there does seem to be the appearance that Jmods are drawn to, promote & make exceptions for those types of RS gamers.
Announcing The Menaphos Insiders
When Mod Balance announced who the Menaphos Insiders were going to be & the community realized that the Menaphos Insiders that were chosen didn't fall into those categories per se, some folks gave the impression from their comments that they were upset that a bunch of 'unknowns' had been chosen instead.
Mod Balance did indicate that "four of our initial invitees were picked at random, the rest were a conscious choice." He went on to explain that "each applicant shared their social profiles with us. We used this information to identify participants based on their social media habits. From there, we took a group of players from each platform, and invited them to the scheme. This is a test based on "dark social". So a persons interest aren't a variable we are testing, but instead the platform they use the most frequently."
The harshest critics of Mod Balance's choices were by far found on Twitter. I found it very interesting that one twitter critic of Mod Balance's choices was someone who had been chosen as a Menaphos Insider!
It is worthwhile to note that Mod Balance did indicate that some of the Menaphos Insiders invites had gotten stuck in the outbox which was why some folks might not have received an email.
