Norne Replies: 'Not really, CM seems to have to bow to a number of other aspects. It took them ages to develop the code of conduct we have now when it changed absolutely nothing but was just a better wording of the current (then and now) rules'.

@Norne, Hi, if I recall & correct me if I am wrong, the prior forum code of conduct was not even a issue or something that the community at the time was wanting to be rewritten. In addition, there was no community input nor was there even a community thread that was put in place to discuss that rewrite of the forum code of conduct nor was the community even informed that it was going to be 'rewritten' either.
Now you might be wondering why this is worthwhile to mention, it is because the original forum code of conduct, as well as, the 'rewrite' of that original forum code of conduct were worked on by both the Jmod staff and the RSOF community. The current version of the code of conduct was not.
Better wording? idk about that...
In my opinion, it is doubtful that the RSOF community would of used or even recommended that the lead in sentence to introduce the forum code of conduct would of started out with 'a bit of a no-brainer' either.
If I recall & once again, correct me if I am wrong, that the thread that Mod Kalaya announced the rewrite of the forum conduct was on, was a thread that was discussing forum moderation, that btw, if you go back & review, contained the very same stuff that you see written on a similar thread about forum moderation today.
'Jmods can see much more then just the active numbers. They have demonstrated that they can see unique posts numbers (in a given time period), unique posters, unique threads and more. They probably even have an accurate view of whos on the forums when since they can see lurkers not even logged in if they dig enough - your IP has to request the forum page each time it change to a different thread or forum'.

Perhaps I have missed that post on RSOF, twitter or an off-site post that supports that. If you could please be so kind as to share where I can find that information because I would love to see it & I am sure other community members would too.
I, on the other hand, have yet to see a post made by any Jmod on RSOF, off-site, or on twitter that has demonstrated that they can see unique post numbers, unique posters, unique threads & more, or that they have an accurate view of whos on the forums.
What I have seen & what other community members have seen, is that the RSOF active user counter has been used as a reason by our Jmods to justify off-site posting.
That justification leads to a bigger issue, which would be where the Jmods prefer to post information, polls, sneak peaks and a plethora of other information that they don't bother posting to RSOF too, as well as, where they want to spend their time posting (even during 'office hours').
'It makes a lot of sense for the Community Management to allocate their time to the areas where they reach the most players and obtain the most responses. There is no denying that the best place to do that today is on Reddit - and not the forums.'

Ouch.
This is the 'Official' forums for RuneScape btw, just in case anyone has forgotten that.
Companies use social media platforms as a means to drive their customers to their official website. They don't use social media platforms as a replacement for their official website.
In my opinion, the allocation of 'time' as to where to post information appears to boil down to the Jmods 'preference' of what platform that the Jmod would rather use.
I hate to keep using Mod Balance as a example, but on a post he made on Reddit, does tend to give the appearance that his preference for posting is on Reddit rather than using RSOF & he goes on to write that maybe Mod Kalayas preference for posting may be on RSOF. [1]
This runs much deeper than Mod Balance or Mod Kalaya though, since there are a number of our Jmods that give the impression that they would rather use a social media platform than RSOF too all the time *because* they post to those social media platforms *rather* than post the information they are sharing offsite to the 'Official' website.
This tends to lend credibility to the argument that some people make, both on social media platforms & RSOF, that our Jmods don't even like using RSOF *because* that *is* the impression that they are giving.
This also lends credibility to the argument that because of this impression, (that they prefer to use social media platforms rather than the 'Official' website), that they are the ones that are driving the community away from the 'Official' website to utilize other social media platforms rather than utilizing the social media platforms to drive the community to the 'Official' website.

Comment: 'the forums have a spike of activity on update day'. Said spike is currently at ~450. Meanwhile there's 1k+ in this subreddit right now. Granted it's still early-ish (iirc) for most people in the US that's still hardly what I'd call a spike for just a few hours after an update.
Comment: Yeah Recent Game Updates right after a game update. Check back about 2 weeks from the most recent patch. 9 active users
A: Mod Balance 10 points 1 year ago: Mhmm - which is why I spend more of my time here than on the forums. People on the forums say we spend too much time on Reddit, people on Reddit say we spend too much time on the forums. It's swings and roundabouts!

Q: Yes, how dare they use the official website to do anything! That's..that is...that is wrong! /s
A: Mod Balance -4 points 1 year ago: Just to address your point about using the forums:
The forums are useful for us to gather feedback because we can also see who's posted it. On Reddit, people use different names and multiple accounts so it's less reliable.
People on the forums have the same complaint about us using Reddit.
I'd probably say I spend more time on Reddit than I do on the forums, whereas Mod Kalaya would probably say the opposite.

I thought I'd look posts on the forums and took a screenshot of the list and have just compared how many posts.
So from Thursday 3rd 11pm to about 5mins ago there had been 20979 posts
10,101 of those in the clan recruitment sections both old school and RS3 (5314/4787 respectively)
Don't think I made any mistakes.
Sounds about right yeah, since if that's ~4 days, multiplying that 20,979 by 1.75 to get a 7-day estimate would put it at around the 36.7k mark.
Spot on!
Well in the two hours it might have got to 36.8

As mentioned previously, I almost included all of the JMOD TIDBITS on RSOF Website Feedback that I have on this thread as a comparison to the suggestions that are currently posted on the Forum Feedback, Qfc 278-279-885-65848148 thread that is now locked.
I had noticed that the majority of the 'functionality of the forum' suggestions made on that current sticky thread have already been replied to by Jmods in the past, however, I didn't include those Jmod replies on this thread because I wanted to see what the outcome of the Forum Feedback thread was going to be.
As noted on post 3.3, the outcome of the thread rang true to what I had guessed. [1]

Hey guys,
Thanks very much for your feedback. I have a couple of pages of bullet points now that I'll take away and discuss with various teams, beginning with CM!
Obviously there's a few "main" points of feedback, involving both the forum moderation and the functionality of the forum. Functionality brings its own challenges due to extremely limited resources - but I'll definitely bring the discussion to the web dev team.
You'll see actions coming to improve the forums, from this discussion, in the coming months.
Thanks for your time and feedback.
