Windsofnight, you seem to be able to surprise me time after time but I never saw a tuit in my life until you mentioned them here in your thread. However you won't get my address. :P
Anyway, fantastic storyline and a lot of work to write down but what now, what is your plan after writing all of this down in your posts?

A round tuit is special, not everyone needs one...

Great question though.

What are your new ideas to spark The RSOF?

--

Due to the quasi-journalistic nature of this thread I will continue to write supporting constructive motivational commentary. The commentary will continue to includes data sets, JMOD TIDBITS, solutions to issues, a synopsis of current feedback found here, on RS fansites & on social media platforms. Far be it for me to cherry pick what is written about (reported), so a commentary may also include 'what people are saying' & the occasional meanderings from the conspiracy theorist movement of Gielinor.

Speaking of ideas to spark interest in RSOF the following are just a few examples of threads hosted right here in W&F that contain viable ideas to do just that. Please take the time to visit & post your ideas on those threads.

These are not little individual blurbs of feedback found on someones twitter feed or on a individual thread posted on Reddit that may be ignored, overlooked or forgotten about because someone else posted a funny meme or cartoon at the same time.

These threads represent a collection of end user feedback posted over time that allow a individual to have a steady stable reference point to understand what the end user expectations are & how to go about meeting those challenges. A companies customers will always use the companies official website to post feedback, there is no way to get around that fact.

This is yet another example of why a companies forum should never be viewed as not as big as a deal as it use to be. All it takes is a visit to a companies forum to confirm if what is being reported up the internal chain mirrors what is found on the companies own website.

Commentary

As mentioned previously I did note that it appeared that there has been an uptick in the allotment of gold posts being made to RSOF.

The next posting comparison should be insightful as I expanded the time frame used (which is why I haven't posted one in awhile). This will allow the reader to view enough data to see if this is a beginning of a steady uptick which would indicate a positive change or if it is just a temporary uptick.

I found it interesting that one of the replies made to this thread included an FYI which tbh, if I read that FYI way back in 2011 or so it might have made sense since during that time frame the Jmods did tend to use the various social media accounts during their 'off' hours rather than during 'work' hours.

This does not appear to be true today. The social media time stamps appear to indicate that the majority of activity on the various social media platforms appears to occur during 'work' hours rather than during 'off' hours.

A FYI Noteworthy Moment

Since the FYI was interesting, that IMO, it appeared to me that the notions of 'hobby', 'obligation' & 'community management' tended to appear to be a bit skewed. From a business perspective, an employee typically wears many hats as a representative of a company & is obligated to the company they work for.

A hobby like the following definition implies is something that is typically done in one's leisure time rather than during work hours.

Even though most people know the meaning of the individual words I thought posting the definitions of the words may help with context.

com·mu·ni·ty

1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
2. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

man·age·ment

1. the process of dealing with or controlling things or people

ob·li·ga·tion

1. an act or course of action to which a person is morally or legally bound; a duty or commitment.

hob·by

1. an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.

Not to nitpick semantics but for all intents & purposes a community manager would be, whether one holds the work title or not, a employee. A employee would be someone who represents the company & the brand wouldn't they?

Employees who use an 'official' company in-house or social media account & are posting on social media platforms are doing so as an employee of a company. They are posting in that capacity as representatives of the company & are advocates of the brand.

The disclaimer that is usually noted on a employee official company social media account that goes something like 'my views are my own and should not be taken as representative of my employer' blah blah blah is done to protect the company from their employees who may inadvertently post, (I will use the new buzzword), 'alternative facts' about the company or brand. Just to be clear the disclaimer is not posted to a official company social media account by the employee to protect the employee from the company.

That aside, it appears that yes, an employee is someone who represents the company & the brand. Their replies would be noteworthy by the community since they are representatives of the company & the brand.

Interaction with the community as an employee of a company is dealing with the community concerns regarding the company or the brand. The responses made to those community concerns as an employee of the company help manage or alleviate those concerns.

As an employee addressing the community in terms of their concerns is a means that allows the employee to help strengthen the company & the brand. An employee would typically be obligated to the company to pass on those community concerns. Forwarding community feedback & concerns is usually seen as par for the course in a business environment rather than viewed as an obligation though.

It should go without saying that holding back rather than forwarding feedback that may potentially weaken the brand or the company because an employee may feel they are under no obligation to do so typically results in class time at the school of hard knocks.

Reddit - PSA: Do NOT click any advertisements at the top of this subreddit. (self.runescape)
submitted 8 hour ago by Kolumbz

There is current an advertisement at the top of this subreddit which links to a "clan website" which then attempts to phish you if you click a button.

We appologize about this, the advertisements on reddit are completely out of our control and I'm annoyed that this is allowed/managed to happen.

I have messaged the admins asking for an explanation, hoping it was more of an oversight as if advertisement vetting is not a concern to them then we might have a bigger problem considering the large amount of phishers out there for RuneScape.

I have also reported the phisher domain to it's registrar and I'm current in the process of reporting it to their hosting provider.

TL;DR: Phisher link, no clicky

Update 8PM GMT:

Reddit admin has confirmed that the advertisement has been removed.

Commentary

Back in the day, 2010 or so, a RS fansite was compromised by a similar situation & a PSA was immediately posted in the General Forums by a Jmod.

This is not the first time that the subreddit has had been compromised by phishing link ads or end user content related phishing links nor will it be the last time either.

At least this time a PSA was issued. However, no PSA was issued on RSOF even though it appears that there had been quite a bit of ' activity' on the subreddit.

'I am more than happy to admit that's the reason we spend more time here than the forums.'

Since the community is driven off site for information shouldn't the time be taken to issue a PSA right here on RSOF when that site has been compromised too?

There is no shame in warning the community that is being driven off site when issues such as these crop up since Jagex has set a precedent for doing just that in the past.

If jmods cite the forums being less active than reddit and as such a reason why they are active on reddit quite a bit then I think using the amount of posts made on the forums is reasonable to gauge how active the forums are. Also reasonable to then compare it to how many posts are made on reddit. If people are posting far more on the forums than reddit then I'd like to know what the jmods explanation is for not using the forums at similar levels.

A bump post on a clan thread is still a user using the forums isn't it?

I like the cleverness in this post mate.

Is that a compliment or sarcasm :P

Oh you of little faith :P You'll know if it's sarcasm :P
