I, Blake Owlkin, ask that Jagex not remove the forums.

Forums are a necessity. No social media platforms are conducive to discussion. They just let you plaster your personal statements all over a wall, and do not support conversation.

Additionally, Jagex should only put out news posts on the RuneScape webpage or the official forums
Linking there from Twitter or Discord is fine, but that should be the primary source

If you think this is the way to deal with criticism of unpopular updates (such as Hero Pass) - by silencing long-term devoted players - you are very much mistaken.

Any company that fears consumer feedback most likely has reasons for doing so. Hiding behind the skirts of social media hiveminds is not a good luck. Removal of the RSOF not only reveals Jagex's disinterest in the voices of their game community, it calls into uestion their viability as a company. Following the closing of the forums, what will they shut down next? Will it be OSRS or RS3?

I know their recent sale attempt fell apart - but are they really in this much trouble?

The Empty Lord enjoyed lurking on the forums from the shadows - and he is displeased in regards to their closure. No, he is not happy about it at all! All hail The Empty Lord!

In fact, this is my first forum post, but not my first time using these forums. They are a great source of knowledge (tips, feedback, opinions) and resource to aid in playing the game (D&Ds and clans).

Just because I don't log in and post, does not mean I don't visit the forums daily. They know the traffic they get. It's a shame because the decline is partly due to neglect. There must be an internal cost cutting push at Jagex HQ and this may just be the start of things to come. Let's hope not.

I, Manual, of Rift/W31 Stars, ask that Jagex don't remove the forums.

Side note surely the forums are mostly curated via Fmods anyways, and what's the negligible space taken up for some forum pages on a server. I hardly log in to forums as I only need to post, and that doesn't happen often.

Was the reddit debacle last year not further proof that 3rd party only is 1 step away from vanishing.
1st Party services are the only way to guarantee long term availability.
