Which brings me to my next question: How do you deal with misuse of the Block function like in the aforementioned example?

Because there obviously will be if it is, indeed, implemented..
Yea, I'm fully aware of the potential mayhem that this may cause. I do not know, but what if this were to be implemented, then Jagex can add a rule where it's not appropriate to let other people know that you have blocked them? Similar to the unwritten rule that you should not let others know that you have reported them -- either in-game or on the Forums -- to avoid retaliation and further rule-breaking. Do you believe something like this would properly function?

Yea, I know it's virtually impossible to forbid someone from typing, "Hey! You are a troll and I have blocked you!", but throughout my years here, I have yet to see a post or thread where someone else says, "You have been reported to Forum Help" or something related to that. Maybe adding that extra "rule" saying that it is forbidden to publicly post that you have blocked someone else to avoid unnecessary comments/situations.

What do you think?
That seems like a good rule. Could also fit the warning into the block button when confirming. Dunno how many are going to read or remember it though (despite it being common sense), but as you said, it's not a common occurance for someone to post taunting messages like the example you gave.
Life is like a camera: Just focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot !

YES! If possible, it could also be embedded within the block/ignore feature/option prior to you blocking/ignoring someone. I do not personally recall an instance where someone here on the Forums has said, "Hey, you have been reported!"

It is quite easy and already functional, ... but not for us but for 'moderators'. :D ( 'made hidden' option )

Standard = all posts are visible to anyone

Block function = posts of a certain individual are 'made hidden/masked' on a player's request, only 'made hidden/masked' for that single player.
Anyone else who does not block will see all posts posted. Block function is 'irreversible'. If you feel you need to block more than X-players you will be kicked out of said thread.

It isn't something I would advocate for if we had unlimited time. I would expect forum users to be mature, take advantage of the (improved, at this point) moderation tools available to them (report to a JMod etc.) and move on with their days.

100% agree. Jagex's forums are intended for mature users who respect moderation.

If you want to limit access to whoever you like, create your own private domains and forums elsewhere. :)

That's by far the best; an ideal forum with mature, strong minded users. Unfortunately we're not quite there yet, but this is the same for almost every other Forum I've used - especially gaming communities. The ignore function should be a last resort and not something that we should set as goal for the forum, by no means. Life is like a camera: Just focus on what's important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot !

indeed and if people have each other blocked

would the "quote" be hidden or the whole post even if the person posting it isnt on anyones ignore. but the person they are quoting is on ignore

it can cause for some weird situations and missing information
True, but if you are ignoring someone, why would you need to quote or see their post if the main point of ignoring a person is not being able to see or interact with them?

oh i mean as in a 3rd party (person)

if person A has person B on ignore

person A B and C are in a discussion

A and C are in a conversation currently

B comes along and quotes C and responds to something he says

C then quotes B and responds (who also quotes A in the same post)

we now have a situation

person C has 2 quotes from A and B in 1 post

considering person A has person B on ignore

is just the quote blocked out. or is the whole post blocked out. so now person either;

misses the response from person C

or has a post from person C but has extra information in the post causing it to be confusing as there is no quote to differentiate who what he is responding to

oh god i know thats super confusing but i cant think of another way of showing it

so thats how it will cause issues, even though A doesnt want to see Bs responses its caused a confusion no matter which way it goes.

i really hope that makes sense.

Extra edit ...

Standard thread =

Block function =

Blocked posts =
blocked posts can't be quoted any further, text can't be copied & pasted, not by any other contributor in The RSOF. Manually re-typing a blocked post will result in a sanction.

This will as much leave a thread to be, to be how it evolved from the first post.
