Are the instances of of this happening increasing or decreasing? Why is it random? I had no problem up until today. 18 hours and counting is a bit ridiculous for not being able to log in. The "help" here is basically telling us "we know and too bad".
At my funeral will be a piñata so ppl can be happy, but full of bees so they're not too happy.

same for 911smasher, I logged on at about 10pm and logged off at 11pm, go up this mourning at roughly 9am, tried logging in and got the message saying ( too many attempted log-ins from your address, please wait 5 minutes before trying again. I figured I would try to change my IP address as it states in the message too many attempts from address. contacted my provider but they said I cannot change the IP address I use, it will only refresh itself or find a new address for you ever 30/60/or 90 days just depends. this is very frustrating for a player of 15+ years that cannot log on to there account as I have never encountered this situation or problem ever before. I don't need to have a separate VPN or some nonsense to play the game I and so many others love the most. currently not been able to login for roughly 9 hours now, I have asked others in my discord and few have had this problem and had to wait 30 days and some more just to log back on due to this. :(

Is just that its a blast from the past. Its a long time since I have heard that one.
An even longer time since I used it in anger.

I really appreciate Mod Lyon's response, as he spent time responding. Albeit his response is not what people really wish - to quash this bug.

He may not categorize this issue as a bug, but for any player that experiences this problem - it is like being hit by a bus. It is a random virtual ip ban, and the cause why some Runescapers are affected while others are not is a mystery that Lyon is unwilling to demystify.

One thing is for sure, if you are one of a few who get hit by this bug (sorry Mod Lyon, as a player who experienced this - I still call it a bug) - then it is like being banned out of the game and the runescape website that is no fault of your own. Victims of this bug are innocent, we just happened to be affected like participating in a virtual lottery and just unlucky of getting hit.

I still wish that the issue be treated as a critical priority 1 issue to solve.

I only commented at all because it made me laugh out loud.
Many years ago, this used to be a running joke in my office.

The problem here sounds like there is a trade off between the two undesirable outcomes of 'not secure enough' and 'so secure that some users cannot legitimately log in'.

Isn't always easy to find such a balance.

"It is not a bug, it is a feature" term was usually used against Microsoft's OS, Windows.

Never in my wildest imagination that one day, such phrase will be a good fit for Jagex as well.


The company should fix this problem ASAP, there is no other way out of it.

I'm receiving the same error: "Too many login attempts from address."

My alternate account is able to log into the game just fine, so this it not an IP address issue as some other people have commented.

This is specific to each account. This is a bug, or a cyber attack on your game. Please fix.
