I have not been able to log in on my main account in over 20 hours due to the message “too many login attempts, please try again later”

I have access to all of my other accounts and have no issues with them. My main on the other hand, will not log in..... hoping somebody can see this because support is truly letting me down.

This is likely caused by too many login attempts. Every time you attempt to log in again, it will restart the timer making it longer - I suggest you wait a day or so without even attempting to log in and it will clear. Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
Do you think I should get off the tracks?

Cancel your subscription if you have one ongoing. Jagex has known about this issue for several months and has done NOTHING about it except make bullshit suggestions such as :

1) Use VPN
2) Use alternative network.

They are not owning up that this is an issue on their end and is trying to not bear responsibility for this issue. Waiting a day is NOT a solution, considering how long this problem has been going on for.

Ive been having this issue. Fill in the web form for support and they will get in touch. It didnt help me but might encourage them.

Have you tried using your phones data to login instead of your home connection? There is currently 2 known issues.

To many login attempts (my theory is someone is login botting our usernames and getting us locked) - the issue im having.

and to many login attempts from local address.
Resolving this one is easier, you hard reboot your router which will give you a new static IP or change internet connections.

Can you login to a different account fine? Is it only this one youre having trouble with?
Out of interest, when you get the message through the client(any client) can you login via mobile OSRS still? (I could)

Today for example i had the issue, waited 1 clean hour without logging in and was able to but i literally think its total luck as last week i waited 8hours before trying again and ran into the to many login attempts issue.

They wont change logins, annoyingly, and if my theory is correct about someone else trying to login constantly via a login bot were screwed.

Jagex has to be more transparent about this problem, how many Runescapers are actually affected by this?

That number should be significant, given that even here in RSOF that has minimal traffic for the last 5-years have various threads complaining about this very same issue.

Full disclosure, I'm also affected as we speak - and it is not the first time. I'm using my mobile data right now, instead of my regular broadband service to connect. The only workaround is to find a way to get a new public IP address, and that is a barrier-to-entry against the players, mobile data is expensive. If the players signs-up for VPN to literally change their IPs, that also cost something, and using a free VPN is totally unacceptable due to privacy issues.

Waiting it out didn't work for me this time, as I waited 6 full hours, and I still encounter the same error message through my broadband connection.

Guys @Jagex, this is a very bad bug - it is like a random virtual IP ban on a significant portion of your total player population.

Jagex, players deserve more transparency.

Ask any competent System Administrator, this kind of bug should be categorized as a Critical Priority 1 ticket to solve.

I'm confused, this affects people trying to log in to the website?

I thought it only affected those trying to log in to the game.

If you get hit by this bug, if you try logging-in to the game proper the error is "too many login attempts"

If you login in the website instead, the user credential is rejected - as if you entered a wrong password.

That is why this bug is weird, as it produces two different error messages - depending if you attempt to login ingame or the runescape site to access RSOF or accounts section.

So the only known quick workaround is to use an Internet connection that give your device a different publicly-facing IP. Or wait it out, and try logging in a day after.

Guys youre crossing 2 login errors. You need to get this part right,

To many login attempts is different to to many login attempts from local addres or 'this ip'
Its a different issue currently!
I spoke to them via ticket and I got a 'we cant do anything, bye' attitude.

The issue I encountered just said "too many login attempts" no mention of local address or "this ip".

The only choice I have is to find a way to use a different public IP address. Usually through the use of mobile data.
