These rulings were actualized after a specific and disliked FMod created policies such as:

1. Banning mentions of "Friends Chats" in posts ~2017?
- Killed off price updates

2. Banning "Discussion" in item discussion threads ~2019
- Killed off activity

3. Banning "similar" or "useless" threads ~2020
- Killed off posts

I'd actually attribute the end of item discussion forums to one Forum Mod alone. I'm sure there were other annoying Forum Moderators over the past 10+ or so years I've been playing but there was only one that drove policy that decimated user activity.

They're still around to this day, which is why it's impossible to have a resurgence of users.

Pis2ols,

You seem to have a bitter streak going and one could claim that by claiming that the fmods killed the forums is a targeted attack. Yet they've kept the thread open. I know they know it exists.

Simply put when two of more threads exist on the same subject, in the same vein. Per the guidance handed down by Jagex the first one gets to stay and the others are closed. Does that mean that the subsequent threads are any less valid, it doesn't. But them are the rules.

If by example I made a thread right now that argued that the f-mods were the reasoning that the forums are in decline or resemble a ghosttown. My thread would be locked and I'd be instructed to post here on this thread thus contributing to your thread equating collaboration.

There was nothing wrong with the discussion of an item or items in item discussion it was what the subsection of that forum is actually for. The problem being is that most people when looking to discuss said items were using their posts to make alluded to comments about other users and how reputable or unsavory they could be. Thus the reasoning for no discussion to be had on the price check threads.

I read some of those posts if anyone had an outlier that certainly went against the grain of the acceptable norms, the cries of manipulator were heard for pages on those threads. What do you think would have made that better, cause I recall you were mixed up in alot of that at the time.

Normally I would blame the fmods, but I have been looking through some of the activity in the locked forum review threads.....

and clearly the Jmods sabotaged this forum. What surprised me is how recent, and how blatant some of this activity is.

Having said that, I also gave the fmods every chance to prove themselves since JAgex bailed, and their failure was spectacular.

Jagex can be blamed for that as well, and obviously there is no way to reason with them.

The only thing stopping forums from becoming popular again is the forum moderation team. I loved using forums in the past but it's sad to see moderators kill off traffic over the past few years.

So if the entire FMod team was replaced or FMods were scrapped altogether, the forums would magically become a whole lot more popular?
I doubt it.

Forums need some form of moderation and from my experience with several other forums I use, the RS forums are very easy going and lightly moderated.

Go post on Reddit complaining about the way they run things and see how long that lasts.

As I mentioned before, the main reason the forums are in decline is the plethora of alternatives that have become increasingly popular.

For one reason and another, JMods now use Reddit, Twitter etc. instead of the forums, so naturally people seeking interaction with Jagex will go there.

As for people who just want to chat - the forums are available, most sections have chat threads, but again, players have so many options these days.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

Nope.

Reddit and other social media did it.

Jagex not doing anything to update the forums in the last decade hasn't helped matters.

Heck, majority of Jagex employees probably forgets that the rsof exist up until the point someone reminds them.

Short answer? Yes.

Long answer? A lot of things killed the RSOF, not the least of which was Jagex abandoning it for other social media where they can get karma and kudos and likes and whatever else feeds their ego.

It's been going on for as long as I've been using the forums. I've gotten more than a few bullshit rrsponses on FMR over the years.

The portion of the community that exist just to chase the shiny gold crown are as disgusting as Jagex. If they only want to be somewhere because the Jmods are there, they aren't worth conversing with, no matter where they are. Just pieces of trash blowing in the wind.

Yea i dont understand how discontinuing the mods will do any lick of good?

Like said even reddit has mods yet its going just fine.

So its clear that its not mods that ruin things but the ppl that dislike them.

Sadly theres clearly a large number of ppl that do.
