I believe it is banned because it is a sensitive topic to chat about, and there really isn't a need to discuss it on a public forum. It falls under the same category that religions and politics falls under.
This.
There are plenty of other places online where it can be discussed openly, freely and probably more positively and helpfully than here - these are, after all, the forums for a GAME.

Firstly, I must concede I did not know that straight talk was also banned on the forums, but just because this is a GAME does not take away from the social responsibility JaGeX have towards children playing this game, in terms of offering a safe, moderated environment in which to talk about ALL topics pertaining to sexuality and gender identity.
Secondly I refute the suggestion that talking about sexuality is in any way relateable to politics, as people CHOOSE to support a political party, whereas people don't CHOOSE to be straight/LGBTQ+. I am unsure if religion would be considered both a choice and something you are born as, so my next point refers to religion as well.
If JaGeX refuse to allow talk about sexuality, gender identity and religion in the main forums due to being 'inappropriate' they should at least provide a separate forum available to
all
players, which would permit any player to talk about their own values without being blocked out. These forums could have their own designated moderators, and could perhaps have a minimum level requirement of 1000 if spam became an issue. Players would be free to talk about anything on these forums, although spiteful and malicious behavior would be dealt with as strongly as in the game.
I get that you're adamant about changing it, but I think you're missing the point, which Archaeox has already mentioned. This is a forum for a game.
It's not banned because Jagex is against LGBTQ or any other sexual orientation; it is banned because sexual orientation does not belong on a forum that is dedicated to a game whose main target audience is 15 years of age. They are a company, and their main goal is to promote the well-being of the game; not for players to openly discuss their agendas.
I am certain that there are JMods who would vouch for it, but as a company, they do not want to be liable for promoting or dis-promoting or approving or disapproving LGBTQ (or straight) identities/topics.
I think your idea about creating a sub-board is... charming... but it is not viable, given the demographic (ages 15-50+) of RuneScape, and given the fact that we're not here to discuss real world ideals. Your country might be different than my country. You might have a sister who is going through some stuff and she really doesn't want her personal information to be divulged. You might have that one weasel-ish kind of person with immature intentions to disrupt that section of the forums.
In the end, it is not viable to create something that is dedicated to that amount of off-topicness.
It is also not a good idea to promote the idea of changing the unbaisedness of a company.

is it in the terms and conditions that jagex must contribute to 'social responsibility' ?
I'm not sure what there is to discuss about it. If we're looking for equality in all forms of sexual orientation then why do we need to discuss it on the forums of an online game? If anything the act of not talking about any forms of it suggests that there is true equality, right?
Everybody cares about things that nobody cares about.

I remember the battle one guy had to have his name have the word "gay" in it. Glad he won it.
They censor LGBTQ+ because it's sensitive topic for just about everyone, same as religion is censored.
Personally, this hoopla about the LGBTQ+ community bothers me - because some people want to be treated as special because of what they are, rather than equal. We should be striving for equality, not saying we're of a different breed. It's great to be proud of what you are, but when you stove it in others faces it defeats the purpose to me, it almost screams insecurity. At the end of the day, we're all humans and we all deserve the basic right to be who we are without discrimination, and that goes both ways. Taking away the use of the word "straight" doesn't further your case, but rather hinders it.
Either way, I'm babbling on.
Agreed. And that dude you're referring to doesn't have "gay" in his user anymore since he got his real name

"moderated" would mean there are jmods employed for this, which there are not. "safe" is only there if it's moderated. Seriously, this is a game, not a sexuality forum. What others said.
