I've taken a partial hiatus around August 2014 (2 years ago), and only came back at or around full force on RS around March 2015, when boss practice mode came out. When I knocked out some of the hardest comp reqs, Rush of Blood, Arax, and other PvM bosses, it was pretty much a smooth road to recomp, (pretty much lots of Priff reqs from batch 1 and 2 done in a span of 2-3 weeks of no-lifing
) which got me focused on RS once again.
I do plan for 2017 to be another partial hiatus or at least not too intense on RS as I would have other stuff IRL to focus on by then (preferably a full time job after uni/grad school).
Very nice
All the best in the remaining months of grad school. What field are you looking to get into?
Another update. I've been doing raids religiously and met a few nice friends along the way. Clannies are getting better with more trips and more people can take over roles now. Still don't like the beach time gated events. I missed a few days due to heavy workload and raiding taking up time. I don't have a perm team, instead preferring to bring clannies to learn mechanics and roles while filling with friends and experienced people from Pvming FC. I rarely if ever take fresh learners that are not friends or clanmates. Works in my favour as well because I can practice the art of conserving food no matter what roles I take. Friends that tag along will come next time instead of ditching us for perm teams. As a result a half hour session stretches to two times longer or more but it is very fulfilling. It's my version of XP waste akin to your fight caves with dragon scimitar and dying before Jad. But the caveat is I gotta finish my other stuff first. If only I had more time..
Questing Clan of Runescape
, T7 Citadel, capping not compulsory. Free cabbage.
Glad to hear things are going well for you! Also, I'm looking to get into software development and engineering, which is writing code, testing code, and things related to that.
Bump and I've kinda made up my mind now, in early-mid 2017, I don't plan to constantly keep up the pace, but really just take it as it comes in terms of comp reqs. I'll probably still chip away at time-gated content (if there are), and then group reqs occasionally (which are like once in a few months or a year if there are). Meanwhile, with the 120 slayer and other stuff, I'll just get there when I get there.
I feel pretty satisfied in keeping up most of the time from 2014 when I first obtained comp cape until sometime 2017. I agree with those out there, it's better to finally feel relaxed when scaping than to constantly keep up the pace, it just gets tiring after a while..
I used to play a lot, maybe 8-12 hours per day on average. Eventually jobs/school got in the way and it lowered to maybe 4-5 hours/day. Over time the lack of playing made me lose motivation to play anymore, and on top of that a lot of my friends either forgot about me or moved on.
Now at most I'll do a farm run on 07, but i play maybe less than 30min/day at this point. It sucks to realize that eventually your game will come to and end, but once it does it's actually for the better. I'm much happier without it. Good luck.
Hi Lunar Reisen, I was in same situation as yours. I've been 5 months since graduation and 4 months on a full time salary. It isn't fixed 40 hours per se, but more than 40 hours, usually 50 hours. If this helps, I'm a software engineer in bay area.
What you should do is set a priority:
#1 family emergencies and obligations if necessary
#2 work
#3 lesser family obligations + relationship commitments if any
#4 necessity of life such as shopping for food etc.
#5 exercise, believe it or not, but it has to be there at some point
#6 Hanging out with friends
#7 hobbies
#8 Runescape
When you graduate and get started on a job, you will definitely not find time for Runescape at first. It's just how it is, it takes time for the dust to settle down and you'll find time for everything at some point (staying up later isn't a good reason.) You will automatically optimize your routines and you'll find time for hobbies.
What I do with Runescape nowadays is just play OSRS and getting my combat levels up via afking, in hopes I can boss should a friend come back. Completely no obligation and no goals to reach in a set time. I also don't try to make GP, I just buy bonds to sell to save a lot of time and get to what I want to do.
I used to have trim comp, and please do not try to maintain it. It's much better just being casual. Seriously though, a lot of other things are more important than Runescape at this point in life. When you accomplish your goals at being where you want, you can play RS a tad bit serious.

I did move on, but I didn't forget about you. It's been a month though, I'm curious to compare what we think. At least a lot has changed on my side in a month. Feel free to add me on steam, you can find me via our mutual friends.

sorry for my super late response, but thanks for all the feedback!
@Brooke
Speaking of moving on, yes I do think that may be true of all games, in fact, while I'm still in school right now, I do find myself playing less and less but just the dailies like farming runs, red sandstone, daily challenge, weekly citadel maintenance, ports, and maybe a little bit of skilling here and there. I think someday I might actually come to a temporary hiatus at some point in time. I do hope that if I do take a extended break that I don't suddenly become very unaccustomed to RS or have some major update that throws a curveball at me.
I will however keep up with the news and patch notes the best I can if I take a temporary leave.
@Lifer
Thanks for all the tips, and in regards to 1-8, I would say #1 would probably be less likely due to my parents living far away from where I am and they are pretty independent for the most part. #2 will be my #1 then in that case. #3 is N/A since I don't really have a relationship or plan on it
#4 and #5 are important which will be #2-3 and I will have to find some schedule that fits well with it. #6 depends on where I end up at when I graduate, some of my old friends might be geographically distant
#7 I might put right after food, life necessities, and exercise, which would be #4 because without necessities hobby cannot be met or at least hard to do. (Health is important for piano playing too!) and then #8 would be my #5 assuming that I don't have much of a social circle
and who knows if I would still have interest in RS by then, I hope I'd have enough interest to get on a bit just to get a req done here and there, casually.
Finally, I love the advice about not maintaining trim (in fact, I never trimmed, but comp'd and recomp'd a lot). I would plan to stop maintaining regular comp a lot in 2017 to take away more stress IRL
