Ummm, Mobile? OSRS had a huge spike in numbers when mobile was released. We will see the same increase when RS3 hits. Plenty of people still play RS3. You must also log into OSRSand check out the number of bots they have. Reminds me of RS before we had our bot nuke back in 2012. If 35% of that player base is not a bot, I'll eat my hat :P

The two games have approximately equally many players if you look at the number of players in each game hiscore, so the higher concurrent player count just shows the average OSRS player spends more time per day playing their game than RS3 players do.

I don't think Jagex ever foresaw the rise of osrs based on the initial vote. I bet if they had they would have kept the community to what the votes counted too with the exception of the extra membership cost.

I think this would have been much more benifical for rs3 while also been a great time playing osrs, with a few limited updates, ex corp/gwd to appease some pvmers both of which were mostly created at the time. However this would have led to a decrease in playerbase for osrs over time as people got tired of doing the same things.

A better balance could have been struck and now the tides have turned so much for osrs that I think rs3 will never without serious changes outdraw osrs in player numbers again. Its also too late to really have a solution as thousands of players have played thousands of hours on both versions of the game.

In conclusion I bet jagex wonders why they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

You probably have it right. It really does not take much time to progress in RS3 anymore. People will play OSRS more because how much it really takes to obtain goals.

With patchnotes like an iceberg how could they go wrong.

A shame rs3s ability to change hasn't gotten better. Construction they say would take 3 years to do so they kinda just give up on those projects. The large content droughts really hurt the motivation to stay on since nothing will change.

I can get the charm of osrs nostalgia. I played mercenaries 1 on ps2 and I loved it. Then they released mercenaries 2 and everything on the new game sucked and it was only 8 hours long. Which made me say the hell is this awful mess, they ruined the franchise.

You can not run a game on killing bosses and grinding skills alone,as long as this is the case nothing will work. Its only attractive for a small part of the players and this effects everything in the end.
People who like clans and organize, they are one of the most important assests of any game. But if there is only few players then the opportunities to create such things are also smaller. Not only smaller in numbers but also more limited in scope. Merchant clans are pointless when there is nothing to merchant, same for pvp clans or social clans. They need players, they need other players besides the bosshunters and max grinders.

The bad updates they don't help either, they are so bad and useless like firemaking update. Scared to make anything OP, like wth how can anything be op in this game it already had so much powercreep in getting xp,gear and potions.

The game should move away from bosshunt. It has focused all attention on bosshunt for the past 5 years and it didn't pay off. They don't have to limit themselves to catering to such small player base.

07 should have died out pretty quick

With the amount of support from players it had and players still having faith in Jagex to carry out their promise on it, I don't think anyone seriously believed that it wouldn't last.

my only hope is that Jagex continues to fuck up RS3 as much as possible so we get more players on OSRS. The game is so much better! :)
Strongly disagree with this tbh. OSRS is awful with the horribly outdated graphics, non-engaging gameplay (combat system) and so many other bad things about it.

The only thing I do give it props for is that the content developers and management team behind OSRS are doing a far better job in maintaining the OSRS player base by listening to their feedback and actually implementing what they want.

Would be nice if they slowed down on the cosmetic releases on RS3, and introduced MTX to OSRS so they can share the amount of disliked content, rather than it all going to us. :)
