HLF being a subsection of the RSOF as a whole I think its relevant. What applies to the rest of RSOF is going to apply to HLF as well, for the most part. I find it hard to imagine theres a universe where RSOF are dead but HLF is bustling with activity. As RSOF go, HLF is sure to follow.

Players are generally going to be treated to the normal forums first before witnessing HLF. If they have a poor first experience I don't know why they'd come back specifically for HLF.

Ironic thought of the day:

At RuneFest 2016 there was a meeting for attending FMods with Mod Kalaya. She asked for ideas about improving the forums.

My reply was that the HLF needed a LOT MORE staff interaction, because of the huge amount of potential for really valuable feedback here. After all, by definition it's a collection of more experienced players, and as the CLF has shown, more Staff attention = more useful ideas being thrown around and a generally better atmosphere.

As you will already know, unfortunately that argument resulted in exactly no changes being made. Which is very sad, really.

One more question while you're here, again slightly off-topic but thats actually the point here.

Did it get tiresome upholding rules that didn't seem to matter much? While this isn't exactly On-topic of the thread, and thus could be deemed unwarranted in such a thread in low level forums, you could consider locking the post for derailing.

However I think given the reality and full context of the situation here.. The fact that this forum seems to get less than 50 posts a week these days, and the fact that this seems to be able to be valuable civil discussion trying to come to an understanding - it seems like a warranted discussion to have. In this instance would it not be more appropriate to have said discussion rather than upholding the rules to the letter of the law?

I think I'd rather have people actively using the forums rather than posting nothing at all because they're worried it'd get locked for whatever reason.

Let's put it like this...

It got tiresome seeing new Staff come in every couple of years trying to reinvent the wheel, and usually wanting to try something that had been tried (and failed) in the past. Bear in mind that FMods don't always agree with the rules they're asked to enforce, but are too invested in the forums to want to give up and quit the role (and thus any hope of influencing things for the better).

Over the years, many (not all , but many) CM staff were unwilling to listen to people who'd been on the forums for longer than they'd been with Jagex, and even fewer were able to navigate the internal bureaucracy to get meaningful changes made. That's a bad combination of factors that's helped no-one.

Example of this? The fact that after years and years and YEARS of trying, CM haven't been able to convince management to re-code/upgrade the forums properly.

She cba to open a thread at the beginning of the month and close it at the end of the month in Premier, so Shauny had to take over. She only likes social media and seems to rarely spend time here. It seems like you were talking to the wrong person.

She also calls the players degenerates and is 100% convinced that bugged content is 'working as intended,' and that if you are having problems with that content you should 'get better,' or 'try harder,' or whatever the hell it is that she said when Barry was out massacring people.

I don't ever look here unless I've logged in to post something on the regular forums. That probably doesn't help with activity, assuming other people do the same. There also isn't much that sets this section apart from the rest in terms of benefits anymore. What, the ability to add links? and that might've changed on the regular forums too for all I know.

I'd be curious to see how many people who max actually request access here -- again, assuming it even works like that still.

What otter is saying here is gold, Archaeox. I think you failed to understand it as an Fmod whereas some of your colleagues who received less criticism or even praise didn't.

Basically, no one had a gun to your head forcing you to enforce rules absolutely to the letter , where in some cases they could be bent and weren't necessary. This is called discretion. People just saw you actively tearing the forums down and this is why you got criticism. lol

More to the overall topic, Fmods in general have/has had a tendency to do what Archaeox did. After a decade and more of this, people chose to just stop posting...
"Why are you posting threads, asking questions and making discussion???"

@ (*(*( Dsctatom )*)*)*) no kidding, yeah, so I gave up checking that thread long ago.

@ (*(*(* Chee )*)*)*) I'm still hurting at that insensitivity and wrongful accusation.

I don't post much at all anymore, but I really believe it's their desired result. No need to spend valuable time monitoring a vacant forum.

Had a nice long reply typed up but decided I was rambling too much. Simple version is I got so bored with the game that I stopped playing for a few months, then started playing more alt accounts (simultaneously). Playing 4 accounts at once was enough to keep me interested in the game since it was actually interactive at that point but I've started missing all my forum lovelies so I'm dialing back on alt-scape.

Though if it's as much of a ghost town as this thread implies, alt-scape may be making a comeback.
