RS4 will likely be a tick system overhaul as opposed to a graphical change. That's the next major step due for this game. Can't say what year, but eventually it will happen assuming the game is still running. .

Nope, Jagex is in cruise control with RS3 and is now focused on their next failed MMO. They will never put the effort involved to get to RS4, unless they consider proper day cycles enough to call it that, then yes: we may get day cycles 4 years from now.

If we look at the last few years of RuneScape, I think it's quite evident Jagex has neither the drive or the talent to do something as 'big' as RS3. Increasing amounts of MTX, crucial updates being continuously pushed back, and there's been a sharp decline in the overall quality of content.

NXT client was released 2 years ago and has barely been maintained, bank rework has been promised for years and keeps getting put off, mining and smithing rework has been talked about since late 2013, events are riddled with microtransactions, etc.

Mobile is their next 'ambitious' project and I guarantee it will be abandoned within three months of release. See: companion app or any other Jagex project.

RS will probably still be around in 2022 but the game will probably still look and play the same. Just with more average content, much more MTX, and still no bank rework.

inb4 can buy items directly from the Jagex store. Staff of Sliske yours for £99.99! Sip Yep, RuneScape was a good game.

So it went from 3 years to 9 years between these evolutions, so I think we should triple the development time again if you actually want to base it off the past and then it would be a whopping 27 years after RS3 that RS4 comes out. Sit tight mate, it'll be ready in 2040 ;)
