Crude, atrocious, disgusting, foul, low, Jagex.
The entire premise of the foundation is never clearly stated. A couple of videos showing stock images and like 4 interviews with people on the streets.
Jagex should donate all of the money to Young Minds.
Or at the very least offer more information about the charity it is promoting. There's not a single mention of the charity or its cause but the ending sentence with a link.
All about that $$$$$$.
Efing disgusting.

At least give the money to a more decent foundation, preferably Young Minds.

Yeah man because tossing shittons of money into schools in your own country to stop bullying is wayyyy better than feeding people who are starving to death 10.000km away. ******* ******, how about you get the people in your country to vote for a political party that has promotes an eleborate mental healthcare or spread awereness yourself.
Don't get me wrong mental health is a huge issue, but saying it's way more important than feeding starving babies in africa is just plain rude.

at least all of the money (excluding jagex's 6% cut of course) is spent helping the people that need it as opposed to Oxfam handing out about 50% with the rest of it paying the big boss many hundreds of thousand pounds per year paycheck and paying the people that come to your door asking for even more money.

I'm surprised to see so many people appalled by this! I don't understand what is so bad about jagex offering to donate to charity? A huge point of this is something called a money sink! Each bond is worth what, 8m? last I had checked there were over 10k bonds donated, and if half of those were purchased with in game cash, 40 billion coins are now out of the economy. And with the well of goodwill, trillions have been removed. This is important to the economy! money needs to be removed from the game! There should be more money sinks. And if jagex wants to offer a small reward for this, whats so bad about that? whats wrong with something tiny like a title for getting trillions out of the game economy, while giving money to people who need it?

Oxfam has a very good reputation for the ratio of donated money spent on the actual projects needed with a very small amount spent on admin.

It also has a great policy of Change not Charity. Making the world fairer. And asking the locals what is needed. Also helping locals set up long term business so they can support themselves. For example oxfam coffee growers get decent wages. [ its nice coffee too ]

So I am glad to see this, but am struggling to raise the gp to buy a Bond.

I wish i could just donate the gp when i have it. If i had known this was coming up i would have not donated to teh wishing well, and possibly had enough for a bond.

I have never heard of the 3 charities jagex sponsered, but trusted Jagex enough to donate there.

Charity has nothing to do with self gain. ...
Charity is supposed to be about giving for the gift of giving. It's supposed to be anonymous,
On another note: Ebola? Really? I can understand the gaming charities but Ebola? The world needs to realize sooner or later that even TB kills more people than Ebola. Unfortunately TB doesn't exist in the western world so I guess it's not a problem we want to deal with.

Oxfam and WHO ( world health organisation )Red cross/crescent and others are already working to help reduce TB. Ebola is causing immediate deaths and suffering, and also needs our compassion. This out break is much much worse than previous out breaks, and spreading further and faster. If it cannot be stopped potentially the deaths will rise above those from TB this year.

I know ppl mean well, but every time someone starts a new charity they have to
have a computer
- an accountant to keep right with the laws
- money to keep running those things
- etc.
*research* current charities and activist organisation you WILL find something that is helps in the area you are passionate about. donate some time as well ;)

Indeed! I hope the impoverished people relying on the urgent supplies from Oxfam don't get wind of this, they'll be outraged!

Aka:
The people who *literally* get to eat because charities from Oxfam give no poops to whether someone did it out of the goodness of his heart, or to get a fancy title in an online game he plays.

It's an event for a good cause; medical supplies reach sick people in third world countries, someone gets a fancy hat in Runescape. Win win.

good point very good point

re: pollution, my health is much worse because of coal mine fires, and "normal daily functions"
yet loss of jobs is scary also.

If governments were doing it right they would switch the ( our tax money) from coal companies to renewable companies
and establish training for the workers so they can switch to the newer cleaner ways of making electricity. winwin

You don't seem to understand what a gold sink is. Each bond is worth about 8 or so million right now, yeah. You know where that 8m goes to? The person you bought the bond from.

The only actual source of bonds is paying Jagex money instead of gp, so all this really does (game economy-wise) is either get Jagex more bond sales or circulate the gp, not drain it out of the game. It drains gp from one player's bank and puts it in another player's bank. It may be a gold sink for a player, but it's not a gold sink for the economy. If you could donate a bond's worth of gp, then yes, this would be a money sink; but, unfortunately, you can't.

I didn't mean to sound aggressive or demeaning, so I'm sorry if I did. I'm just tired of people saying that something's a money sink when all it does is fill another player's bank while emptying yours.
