I've never been a fan of PoK's. A combination of entitlement and fun-policing has always tainted them around here, not to mention the extreme vitriol that comes about when two PoKs butt-heads. Needless to say, I am also largely against PvP RP in general. If there's someone losing, there's generally someone not having fun - and that leads to split canons, blacklisting, arguments, and voids.

Stepping down from PoKs to something like Player-run cities and noble houses is a step in the right direction, but that won't entirely fix the problem. It might not even fix it at all. There are very few people left, and even fewer joining this community. And if they do join the community, the first thing they see is all this crap.

I'd say that people need to live and let go, but the folk around here have had years to do it. I am uncertain if anything will change at this point, even if certain habits were gotten rid of.

I've gotten by for the most part by staying away from the limelight and playing in my own sandbox eating my own sand with my hand-picked goons. But that also contributes to the problem - groups sequestering themselves off to be away from the 'toxic' community. It leaves people bitter and unwilling to go out and play with others.

I guess the problem is there's nothing worth it to anyone to drop the old grudges and nit picking to get along.

As much as I've tried to remain neutral in most of these circumstances, I'm going to have to agree with a lot of the points made by Isaac Stark.

From the long time I've had to experience Roleplay in RS, I've found that some of the most enjoyable and engaging roleplays have come from those who generally agree on an outcome beforehand, even if it's just between the two leaders.

By extension, this means that PvP RP, as stated by Isaac, is in most cases a ticking timebomb before one of the sides throws their hypothetical toys out of the pram. A lot of examples could be mentioned, but honestly there's no need.

Agreed, but the problem is a lot of people in the community, at least in more "important" roles, tend to have a high competitive attitude, and as you say, won't back down when shown the red cloth. And the unfortunate truth is you can't really change how people behave. It's hard enough to change your own behaviour, let alone others! It's just a true shame that nobody has at least thought about trying , I've not really seen that effort made at all, or if one party does, the other simply won't without being given what they want...

As it stands, the whole groups locking themselves off from others does in theory allow for more flexibility for them in RP, but yes, agreed, they won't wish to play with others as you say.

I'd like to think that if the community as a whole could realize their potential if they could drop said grudges, they would, but in my honest opinion I dont think that will happen. The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken...

Yeah, I’m down. I never was really one for POKs anyways, but like. What good did they really bring? A few cliques and high school drama? "A silly ***** is what I'm going to call **** jokes from now on."

I'm an old rper and I miss the old days in the bar and casual rps. I'm trying to bring it back a bit, and I have ideas that I need to set into motion...

That being said, when done correctly, PoKs can be great. I joined one recently to be more active within the community, so I try to stay out of the politics, but it can be tricky.

I just think we need to go back to simpler times :)

Yeah I think they should abolish, it's like power tripping for folks. Not to mention it's also lorebreaking, because in game we already have established kingdom leaders such as King Vallance of Asgarnia or King Roald of Misthalin. King Lathas for Khandarin.

We don't need players galavanting around pretending that what they do is relevant in the Kingdoms of Gielinor. And that being said I also understand the political values that POK provides, but ultimately with the state of the community they should be abolished.

Don't mind me, just sitting here watching the same conversations be had on repeat across the months.

"Abolish muh POKs" isn't new, and by Ebola, will remain rotting in the bed it has lied in for so long.

Been awhile since I've seen someone go off about "all the rulers different than the in-game rulers are lorebreak" though. Which I'll use the dig up an old question: are the existence of all of our characters lorebreak?
