Amalarik,
Next time we're in-game, remind me to point you to a copy of Hans Dobringer's fight book. He died a few centuries ago, but had a lot of similar statements.

My laptop background is actually several diagrams of the human anatomy, with different areas highlighted different colors depending on how effective they are to hit. I've gotten some weird looks, from people irl, but the simple charts helps in determining where's best to strike next. Still need to include one with pressure points, though.

I can't say that I'm all that familiar with the more obscure pressure points, but I'm always looking for effective new techniques.

I was too busy this Wednesday (which was the day before your post anyway), but the same group I take fencing from teaches some other things. I'll have a little chat, see what I can pull up.

I still remember my joy when I looked into translations of medieval fight books for the first time, and saw paragraphs upon paragraphs of techniques - a lot for the longsword, but good amounts for the rest as well. As I only had nine months of roleplay experience at the time, the amount of material made it feel like I couldn't learn it fast enough, that it might disappear or I'd lose a fight and learn something that would've saved myself from losing a character the next day.

Now, I usually look over four to five techniques from those sources a week, at a much more relaxed, understanding pace. Wrestling, longsword, knife, axes, flails, etc., usually have weekly additions. I've tried adding more, but then it feels like more of a chore than a pleasure, especially trying to balance it with schoolwork.

P.S. yeah, I completely forgot to message you about what I said I would. *Khaine charges a superheat spell, then facepalms.*

You, Klios, and I should arrange an in game meeting to talk at length about the fascinating intricacies of combat. I could go on for ages about such things.

Indeed. I know I tend to focus my knowledge on longsword fencing, you on wrestling, and others with their specialties. Expanding our repertoire can't hurt.

Annnd I do archery!

Profiled, though. Good to know some closer-in stuff if you don't have much skill with a blade.

And if you follow one of the main methods of using a knife in the Dark Ages - you can make slashes and whatnot, but stick to wrestling to make certain movements much more debilitating - you have a pretty good close-up combo. Shieldbow allows a nice transition into this when the reach of an enemy's weapon prevents immediate wrestling.
