Excelling in the ability to roleplay unarmed combat is something many roleplayers wish they could do, some think they can do, and others actually can use. What I aim to describe here is techniques for martial wrestling - the kind used for life-or-death fights. This is quite different from sportified wrestling or wrestling meant for entertainment, where the emphasis is on a dangerous appearance or to perform moves that are meant for scoring points instead of actually being able to take a life in a fight.

In this case, these techniques are derived from a situation where there was an emphasis on the learning-effectiveness ratio: to teach something someone could use to fight, but without an extensive amount of time. In short, what could be learned at a timely pace before moving on.

So, these are wrestling techniques that are not watered down for entertainment, or confined by systems meant for points and preventing serious injury. There is no emphasis on flashy, finishing throws after debilitating an opponent. Simply killing and crippling, just what we want as fighters in the Sicarius.

There are three key distances in wrestling: from arm's length, from the reach of the whole body, and wrestling on the ground. My purpose in these divisions is that I believe this will be the most practical way of looking at these techniques from a flow chart.

Next to the name of the techniques, I will list weapons that can be used during the technique, such as knives & daggers, claws, ret'braces attachments, etc. Just like "Longsword Fencing", these flowchart descriptions are the bare minimum of what should be described, so you can add other details to your liking.

First Distance: Wrestling from the Arms
-Throw over the Shoulder
-Turning an Opponent
-Finger Hold
-The First Hold
-The First and Second Leg-breaks
-Throw over the Leg
-Counter against the Arm-hold
-First Wrestle Closing In
-Fourth and Fifth Wrestles Closing In
-Eleventh Wrestle Closing In

Second Distance: Wrestling from the Body
-Neck Hold
-Throw with the Hair
-Basic Throw
-"Out-Lock"
-Leg Throw
-Three "Wrestles"
-Four Counters against a Hold Under the Arms
-Counter with the Finger Hold
-Counter with the Leg Throw
-The Third Hold
-Five "Death-Blows"
-The Third through Fifth Leg-breaks
-Leg-pull
-Kick to the Back of the Knee
-Digging Throw
-Defense against a Pull
-Defense against a Two-Hand Grip around the Chest
-Pulling away both Legs
-Forcing-down
-Counter against a Dual-arm Hold
-Counter against the Belt-grip
-Throw
-Two Throws over the Leg
-Double Stretched Arm-grip
-Neck Grip
-Back-breaker
-Counter against the Throw over the Shoulder
-Throw against Grabbing from Behind

-Defense against a Chest-grip
-Throw against "Hand-freeing"
-Second and Third Wrestle Closing In
-Sixth through Ninth Wrestles Closing In
-Twelfth and Thirteenth Wrestle Closing In

Third Distance: Wrestling from the Ground
-The Second Hold
-First Ground Technique
-Second Ground Technique
-Third Ground Technique

First Distance: Wrestling from the Arms
This distance will always occur in wrestling, and leads into the other two. So, it makes sense that control should be established at this distance. As you look over these techniques, think of what can be done to gain control. Some of them bring your character into second distance while briefly granting control if successful.

Throw over the Shoulder
Approaching from a run: grab the right hand with your left, with a tight grip. Ducking under the right arm, pull your left hand after you while using the right hand to seize the right thigh. Using the momentum from the run even further, throw the opponent over the shoulders and onto his/her head.

*Sicarius, running toward Enemy, reached out to try seizing Enemy's right hand--
--with the left hand tightly. From there Sicarius would duck through under the--
--right arm, passing his left hand through and seizing the thigh with the --
--right hand, seeking to throw Enemy from the shoulders onto his head with a--
--skull-fracturing impact.*

If you wish to reduce predictability, describe running as though intending to run to the side of the other character, with the cloak obscuring the left arm just before lashing out to seize the right hand. While doing this, describe the splitrobe as concealing the legs so the change of direction can't be preempted as easily.
Optionally, wield a knife in the reverse grip in the right hand, and describe attempting a deep stab instead of grabbing the thigh with the right hand. This causes further injury while momentarily providing the same, solid grip required for throwing the opponent over the shoulders.

Turning an Opponent
Grab the left arm with your left arm, and the left leg with your right arm. Pull on them so that the back must be turned to you, so you can then hit the head or punch the adversary down. To counter this being done to your character, duck rapidly and slip through under the left arm.

*Sicarius sought to grab Enemy's left arm with his left hand, and the left--
--leg with Sicarius' right arm. Then Sicarius would quickly pull so that Enemy--
--was forced to turn his back to Sicarius, and leave himself open to attacks--
--from behind.*

Finger Hold
Seize a hand coming at you with both hands, specifically on two fingers adjacent to one another. Rip them apart, thus disabling that hand.

*Sicarius attempted to seize Enemy's nearest hand with both of his own,--
--specifically grabbing the middle finger and index finger, and then sought to--
--tear them apart and thus disable the hand.*

This is great for when a hand is being sent towards your character, whether in a fist or otherwise. To counter the same thing being done to our characters, emphasize your character having overhand blade protrusions (the same ones we use to enhance punching power) and use those to gore the opponent's oncoming hands while protecting the fingers. If wearing these while performing this technique, the blades will skewer the seized hand and do even more damage. In the event of both characters having those blades, the character seizing the hand will come emerge victorious.

The First Hold
Grab the right arm behind the right hand with your right hand, and your left hand grabs the right elbow. Laying his right arm against your right arm, step behind his back. (This is a more forceful version of pulling someone's arm behind the back, dislocating it instead of threatening to break it.) If the contestant still tries fighting, then keep the left hand on the right elbow and seize the right leg just below the calf with the right hand and throw the tryhard on his/her face.

*With his right hand, Sicarius attempted to grab Enemy's right arm behind the--
--right hand, and grab the right elbow with the left hand. Then, pulling the--
--seized arm along Sicarius' left, Sicarius would then step behind Enemy,--
--pinning the arm, then reaching with the right hand for the right leg under--
--the calf to then throw Enemy on his face with skull-fracturing effects.*

The First and Second Leg-breaks
For the first leg-break (not actually breaking the leg, but throwing someone over it), seize the right arm with any hand. Then, step with the right leg behind the opponent with the left foot before the nearest leg. Then, punch him so that he's thrown over your nearest hip.

*Sicarius tried to grab Enemy's right forearm with the left hand, then step--
--with the right leg behind Enemy with the left foot in front of Enemy's, so--
--Sicarius could then deliver a right-hand punch to the sternum to throw Enemy--
--over Sicarius' left hip.*

The second leg-break: any hand that comes toward your character, grab it with both hands behind the hand. Pivot the back to be in front of the other adversary's stomach, and while turning around lift the held arm over either one of your shoulders, pulling it down to break the arm. If the foe wants to try countering this through a hold or grip, pivot back around and fight with other techniques.

*Enemy extends the left hand toward Sicarius in an attempt to grab Sicarius.*
*Sicarius tried to grab the left arm with both hands behind Enemy's hand,--
--Sicarius turning his back in front of Enemy's stomach. While turning,--
--Sicarius would lift the left arm over Sicarius' left shoulder and force it--
--down, breaking it.*

Throw over the Leg
Quickly grab the fingers of the opponent's right hand with your right hand, and use the left hand to help punch the right arm upward. Then, simply throw the contestant backwards over the left leg. (The act of pulling the opponent to the left leg forces him/her around, which is how the foe is thrown over backwards.)

*Sicarius tried to rapidly grab with his right hand Enemy's fingers of the--
--right hand, then punch the right arm upward with the left hand at the elbow.--
--Then, Sicarius would try throwing Enemy backwards over Sicarius' right leg.*

Counter against the Arm-grip
This isn't much, but it's effective enough to merit mention: if an adversary places an arm in a lock with the right hand, then use the left hand to do the same to him. I will not be giving a flowchart example of this.

First Wrestle Closing In
First wrestle closing in: From holding onto the right and left arms, release the left arm. Instead, now wrap the right arm around his left, and with this grip throw the opponent over the head.

*From holding onto the right and left arms, Sicarius let go of the left arm--
--and tried looping his right arm around Enemy's left arm and then throw Enemy--
--over Sicarius' head.*

Fourth and Fifth Wrestles Closing In
Fourth wrestle closing in: Take the contestant's right hand with your left, and pass under the foe's raised right arm to the back. Grapple the right leg with the right hand and then throw the adversary over your character.

*Sicarius left-handedly tried to seize Enemy's right hand, then pass all the--
--way under Enemy's raised right arm so that Sicarius could reach the back,--
--and take Enemy by the right leg with Sicarius' right hand and throw Enemy--
--over Sicarius.*

Fifth wrestle closing in: Grab the right arm with both hands, and pass under the right arm to once more get behind the back. Then, throw the contestant over the body, just like the previously described technique.

*Sicarius tried taking hold of Enemy's right arm with both hands, and passing--
--through under Enemy's right arm to Enemy's back and then throwing Enemy over--
--Sicarius.*

Eleventh Wrestle Closing In
Do this from a run at the opponent: take the right arm with both hands, pass below the right arm to get behind the back, and continue moving so the right arm is broken.

*Running toward Enemy, Sicarius tried to grab Enemy's right arm with both of--
Sicarius' hands, and pass through underneath to Enemy's back to break Enemy's--
--arm from the momentum of the run.*

Second Distance: Wrestling from the Body
Most wrestling happens here, so understandably this section containts the most techniques. Strikes with the elbows and knees are available, with more techniques. This is the best range for fighting with knives, claws and ret'bracers due to more areas to hit.

Neck Hold
Let your character be grabbed if the grab involves an attempt to grab under the arms and around the chest with the two bodies being pressed close to each other, then this will probably be followed by an attempt to lift your character up. Have your character press down to the best of his/her ability, and seize the other character beneath the closest knee. Resisting the force pulled against your character, pull the knee up with both hands so that the adversary now lacks sure footing, and can be thrown from there. This can be done by weaker characters to characters physically stronger than them.

*Enemy attempts to seize Sicarius under the arms around the chest, and press Sicarius against him to then lift Sicarius up to attempt a throw.*
*Sicarius lets himself be seized, but sinks himself down and tries to grab--
--Enemy under the nearest knee. Then Sicarius would lift it up, causing Enemy--
--to have no solid footing and be easily thrown over Sicarius' shoulders.*

Throw with the Hair
If you go to grab the opponent's arm and he/she puts your character's arm in a hold, instead grab the hair, pulling it to either shoulder. Then, run the head into a wall, the force will be enough to force a character into being unconscious, or having a severe concussion. This is especially true when spaulders are equipped.

*As Sicarius attempts to put Enemy's right arm in a hold, Enemy instead does that to Sicarius.*
*Sicarius tries reaching with his hand toward Enemy's hair to pull the head to--
--Sicarius' left shoulder, and from there ram Enemy's head into the wall with--
--enough force to easily provide a debilitating concussion.*

Basic Throw
If the foe is trying to reach towards your character with both arms, step with the left side forward, wrapping the left arm about the neck and the right arm between the legs. Then throw the opponent over the head, and finish him/her while he/she is stunned.

*Enemy reaches out with both arms towards Sicarius, seeking to grab Sicarius' biceps.*
*Stepping his left side forward, Sicarius tries to wrap his left arm around--
--Enemy's neck and the right between Enemy's legs, and then throw Enemy over--
--Sicarius' head with a momentarily stunning impact.*

"Out-Lock"
If the other character has equal strength or less than your character, do this: from a run, grab anywhere below the waist and try pulling upwards, behind the adversary's back. So the contestant is thrown to the ground. Make sure this does not happen to your character.

*Approaching Enemy from a full run, Sicarius tried grabbing the Enemy's right--
--leg and knee, and would continue moving forward while pulling up, in an--
--attempt to throw Enemy to the ground.*

Leg Throw
Approaching an adversary, lock both arms together hit against his/her neck. While the other character is then off-balance, bend down, grabbing the leg below the calves, then throw the opponent.

*Sicarius locked his fists together, and tried a two-fisted strike to Enemy's--
--neck to force him off-balance. If successful, then while Enemy was off--
--balance Sicarius sought to bend down and grab the legs beneath the calves,--
--and throw Enemy back, onto his neck.*

Three "Wrestles"
First Wrestle: place the lower arm over the opponent's upper arm, before the neck; the other arm is placed to the back of the knee. Then, throw the character down to wrestle from the ground.

*Sicarius tried placing his right arm over Enemy's left, hand before his neck,--
--and place the left arm behind the back of Enemy's right knee; and use--
--superior leverage to force him to the ground.*

Second Wrestle: Try grabbing the neck with one hand, and a leg with the other. Pull the leg up while forcing the neck down to bring the other character to the ground, and wrestle from there.

*Sicarius tried grabbing Enemy's neck with his left hand, and Enemy's right--
--leg above the knee with the other. If done, then Sicarius would yank the--
--leg up while forcing the neck down, to throw Enemy to the ground on his back.*

Third Wrestle: Bring your lower arm over the contestant's highest arm and grab that shoulder, and with the other hand grab the leg of the same side while stepping to his/her back. Then, throw the character down, on his/her face.

*Sicarius tried bringing his left arm over Enemy's right and grab the right--
--shoulder, and grab the right leg at the knee with the right hand while--
--stepping around to Enemy's back. Then, Sicarius would yank the leg back and--
--the shoulder forward to try throwing Enemy on his face.*

Four Counters against a Hold Under the Arms
If an opponent has grabbed your character underneath the arms, seeking to drag/carry your character away or throw your character, any of these will work:

*Enemy grabbed Sicarius under the arms, intending to lift Sicarius up and throw him.*

Counter 1: Hit both arms against the throat, and keeping pressing.

*Sicarius slammed both his arms against Enemy's throat to try smashing the--
--windpipe, and regardless of success or failure would keep pressing.*

Counter 2: Place one hand his/her chin and the other on the back of the head, then twist to wring the neck.

*Sicarius placed his left hand on the back of Enemy's head, and the right hand--
--on the chin, then tried to twist Enemy's head to wring the neck.*

Counter 3: Dig the thumbs into the throat, and the other fingers into the eyes.

*Sicarius tried to dig his thumbs into Enemy's throat and the rest of--
--Sicarius' finger's to Enemy's eyes to cause crippling pain, prevent--
--breathing and permanently blind the eyes.*

Counter 4: Press both thumbs against the temples. (When done aggressively, this causes excruciating pain.)

*Sicarius brought his hands up to try pressing against Enemy's temples, to--
--cause crippling pain.*

Counter with the Finger Hold
When a character grabs yours around the hips and is behind your character, grab the index finger of whatever hand is the highest. Turn around to face whoever is behind your character, stepping to his/her back. Don't forget to break the finger.
