The Renaissance of the Wizard's Tower

It has been 20 years since the magic guilds of Gielinor were reorganized under the Loyalty of Mages Act following the assassination of King Adamais Forrys at the hands of a rogue magical group known as "The Mage's Association". Misthalin was the first to implement laws demanding that magical groups pledge their allegiance to the crown as opposed to the Magic Council, believing that the assassination could have been prevented if the kingdom had, had their own agents loyal to the crown working to defend against the attack.

Push back was immediate from the Magic Council but fearing another magical war as they were still recovering from both the Guild Schism and the Dragonlord War decades previous they conceded to the new passed laws. The other kingdoms followed suit and the Magic Council had to dissolve as it could no longer organize and control its member guilds. Many of the larger and or costly guilds were forced to close and disband not being able to afford supplies for research, repairs after conflicts, and general day to day needs. The only guilds that survived were those with alternative means of funding such as those that ran as businesses or the magic schools with private or subsidized funding.

The Golden Age of the Magic Guilds ended with the Dragonlord War and the Silver Age fell with the "Association" incident but despite the hardships the magic community has endured. There are those that dream of the glory of the golden age and feel that they can renew it. A band of mage set off for the south Draynor coast to find the fabled Wizard's Tower that has sat dormant and in ruin for so many years. Their goal, to rebuild the Tower, patch relations between guilds, kingdoms, and the common folk and bring about a new Golden Age of Magic to Gielinor.

The Renewal of a Roleplay

I honestly never thought I'd be back here again. Feels like going back and visiting a childhood home. But, due to the suprisingly amount of interest and now excitement at the prospect of this roleplay resuming I'm returning once again to run the Wizard's Tower. We're all a little bit older and a little bit wiser so I'm curious to see how this turns out. For any newcomers the Wizard's Tower is a high fantasy roleplaying campaign that runs in an episodic style. The Tower originally started in the 5th Age of Gielinor and proceeded into the 6th over a period of about 15 in game years. We did a bit of a timeskip 10 years later into the Varrock Academy of Magic, another RP I ran. This revival of the Wizard's Tower takes place a full 30 years after the beginning of the Academy, meaning it takes place 46 years after where we finished the Tower all those years ago. We're pushing far into the future here to give a chance for new characters, storylines, and a feeling of rebirth to the roleplay. Don't fret many of the old characters from both the old Tower and the Academy will return.

We try to have regular sessions but that will all depend on the schedule of myself and our members. I'm also in the process of figuring out a dice based system just to allow for success and failure as if characters never face difficulty the roleplay gets stale quickly. Though this group has a rather long and convoluted history we're always excited to see new people join and build on what we've built, we only ask for commitment to the roleplay, freelancing won't cut it here.

Forum:

- All base Jagex and Runescape forum rules apply.
- Refrain from spamming the thread, I will check it daily or more and will do my best to keep track of everything that goes on, if you need something and your need isn't immediately met, we'll try to get to it as soon as possible
- Harassment of any sort that is not deemed good natured (in way that makes someone feel unsafe or uneasy) will be met swiftly with merciless removals, bans, and contact with Forum mods. Forum conflict almost killed the Tower once before, I'm not dealing with elementary school bickering and bullying, it's beneath us.

Out of Character:

- Spamming and harassment are the same in-game OOC as they are on the forum, not tolerated
- I'm an adult so I don't care if you curse, but not everyone is comfortable with it, please refrain from using words that are deemed curse words by all cultures. Derogatory terms or racial slurs will result severe punishments ranging from temporary bans to permanent expulsion to being reported to Jagex. Once again I am not dealing with racism, sexism, bigotry, misogyny, or any -ism that results in hate for another group.
- Keep out of character and in character conflicts separate. You are not your character, if in the roleplay someone has it out for your character that doesn't mean they are out to get you once the game stops. Stay civil people.

In Game:

- Standard RP rules apply (i. e. No-Godmodding or Godmode'ing, No auto-hits)
- Do not Metagame! For those of you who do not know what metagaming is, it is the user of knowledge learned while out of character, in character. So if you are watching the other members of the RP and they are plotting your character's death, you can't immediately go in character and attack them all because they are planning your death. Your character would have no knowledge of the conspiracy. This is even important to subtle things like locations of books and spells and such. If your character doesn't know it pretend you don't know it.

Chat Symbols:

To show that you are in character please use -ic- or -IC- when a session starts and -ooc- or -OOC- when you are leaving character.
Use - - (hyphens) to describe actions your character is taking. Ex: -Oberon removed the book from the shelf-
Use * * (asterisks) to show narration or non-character actions. Ex: *The remaining books on the shelf wobble and topple onto Oberon*
Use ~ ~ (tilde) to show internal monologue or thoughts. Ex: OberonOracle: ~That was stupid of me...~
Use / / (backslashes) to show emphasis on certain parts of text when being said out loud or internally. Ex: OberonOracle: ~I /should/ have known better than to try that~
Use ( ) (Round brackets) to speak out of character for a line or two. Please refrain from using this too much, we have a discord server if you need to talk out of character do it there, it keeps chat less cluttered. Ex: (That didn't go as I planned)
Use = = (Equals signs) to show telepathy, not everyone has telepathy so don't assume you can understand it. Ex: OberonOracle: =I need someone to help move books off me=
Use -- (double hyphen) at the end of a line to show that you have more to say. Ex: -Oberon tries his best to push the books off of himself--

The Wizard's Tower

The Wizard's Tower of Misthalin is an ancient and prestigious location of magical study, teaching, and experimentation that has lead to many of the modern conveniences that we have today. The discovery of the links between the Runecrafting Altars as well as the discovery of the Runespan occurred within its hallowed walls. The use of Aether, Anima, and Portents lead to the creation of Thaumtech, worldwide magic item sales juggernaut that has industrialized much of the civilized world. The Wizard's Tower has also seen its fair share of conflicts and danger as well. The looming sentinel has seem many battles and conflicts both within and without. Countless mages have passed between its doors as it remains one of the oldest and most historic magical landmarks in the eastern continent. However due to funding from the Council of Magic being cut the Tower was one of the first institutions to have its doors shut. Since then it has sat dormant waiting for the right group of mages to inhabit it and uncover its lost secrets.

In the Golden Age of Magic the Wizard's Tower was organized into schools based on the elemental types of magic and other magical practices with an Archmage for each school and a Grand Archmage overseeing the various departments. However the renewal effort will have to find a more reasonable hierarchy with its limit member base.

The Tower itself sits on a large island just south of Draynor Village attached by a long stone bridge that has since fallen into disrepair. The grounds of the Tower originally had a training field and a greenhouse but both require much work to get into a state worth using. The inside of the Tower is long since gutted. It will take much work to restore the old fortress to its former glory.

It is not a good time to be a mage, especially if you are not part a monarchy licensed or sponsored organization or group. Though not illegal, the open practice of magic has been looked on with progressively more amounts of disdain over the last 20 years. The fear and mysticism around magic being dangerous has lead common folk to shun magic users in all flavors.
But do not let this dishearten you, magic is a wonderful and powerful tool to help you achieve your goals.

There are many forms of magic users and here comprises a short list of their names and how they use their magic.

Wizard

- The wizard is the most common form of magic user, their magical talent comes from partial natural skill but has been cultivated through rigorous study and training from books or other mages.

Sorcerer

- A sorcerer is magic user who has a natural skill and talent to cast and control magic from having magic infused into their bloodline some time in the past, whether that be a distant relation or a deal being struck for magical power in the past.

Warlock

- A warlock usually has some natural magical talent but has augmented that by making a pact with a more powerful entity in exchange for usually services or some task, because of this warlock magic behaves differently.

Cleric

- Clerics are magic users who's powers are granted to them by their connection to a divine being. Less associated with mages, Theurgy, or holy magic is more widely accepted because of its societal place.

Druid

- Druids are similar to clerics as their powers are granted to them through worship, however druids worship the old ways and the old gods putting their faith and drawing power from nature.

Schools of Spells

Each of the different forms of mages above have different schools and practices that set them apart from even their other magic "classes". Due to the studious nature of Wizards they split off into various concentrations called schools. Sorcerers with their inherent magical talents coming from their ancestry are categorized by bloodlines. Warlocks are referred to by the type of entity in which they have made a pact with for easier understanding of what kinds of magic their wield. Clerics are categorized by the god they worship and further by the domain in which the god holds dominion over. Druids subscribe to a series of teachings known as circles that have various rituals and customs based on their histories and origins.
