He's set a new world record: First person ever to lose $200 Billion .

Is it possible for Elon Musk to go bankrupt?

Almost impossible, I'd say. He has so much money that the only way would be if he made a serious and deliberate effort to do so.

Stocks go up and down all the time, "you only lose money if you sell lower than you paid, buy for low, sell for high".

Biggest issue with stocks is many 'normal people' are forced to sell stocks due to needing money hence 'losses'.

As long as Elon holds onto the stocks, he really didn't lose anything, heck since it's low, he should buy more :P maybe it was planned..... ;)

Honestly... the lengths some people will reach to defend this guy who really couldn't care less about them... :D

Nobody competent goes into business with the intention of failing. The idea that this was all planned is for the birds. Put simply, this is a result of Musk's narcissism biting him back.

I think it's playing out both ways right now though, you have people who are going to great lengths to stick up for Musk but on the other side of that, you have those who just in blind rage over the guy are going out of their way to attack everything and anything he says, does, is associated with however direct or indirect lol

This is very true, and it was always both ways, but it is definitely not a 1:1 ratio. I'm seeing a lot more attempts by his supporters to defend him, than his detractors in 'blind rage'. From what I have seen, the majority of the latter finds this whole situation hilarious as it unfolds, and just laughs at the idea of going to such lengths to defend a man who doesn't care about them. ;)

Why?
He's an engineer, not a marketing guru. Look at how Tesla's stock has been tanking over the last 12 months, for example, while the company sits on excess inventory that it can't shift.

I wouldn't say he's a guru lol, but Tesla has grown over the last decade with no formal marketing department. They spend nothing on marketing unlike other car companies running commercials etc. Musk is and has been the 'marketer' for Tesla which has worked out extremely well in the last 5/10 years.

Perfect example was last year's Super Bowl where other car companies spent millions running ads, just for Tesla who spent $0 to reap the rewards of by having a spike in website traffic and orders. Why? Because Tesla products speak for themselves, accompanied by Musk being the single marketeer for the brand.

In terms of the stock, the market overall has tanked the last 12 months, especially auto and tech, both of which Tesla falls under so it's not accurate to suggest Tesla is unique in that. It's true that Tesla stock has tanked substantially, that's partly the overall market , supply chain issues earlier in the year and downward pressure from Musk selling stock to back the Twitter deal (which is probably the biggest factor of late) - But most of that has nothing to do with Tesla as a business, but rather surrounding noise which is temporary.

In terms of inventory they "can't" shift; Their deliveries are still growing by 40% each year; granted Q4 fell short of their own 50% goal but they're still selling & delivering at a record rate and have been despite Covid, despite ongoing supply chain issues and so on.

So with all that, it's not quite the "doom and gloom" picture your post seems to imply :)
