Wow, a 7 year old thread has risen from its grave.
I'm surprised that this isn't talked about a bit more given that the most powerful person on the planet is a climate change denier.

Not all of it is just for timber though, a large portion of it is clearing area to make room for larger and larger palm plantations for palm oil, which is a cheap filler used in like everything. In this case, at least they're replanting some plants (palms aren't trees, so it's not technically replanting trees), but it brings up other issues like the fact that the orangutan has nearly become extinct because humans are completely annihilating its habitat in the jungles of Indonesia just to be able to produce palm oil.
Comment is old but there's an article in today's NYT magazine about this:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/20/magazine/palm-oil-borneo-climate-catastrophe.html
In addition to destroying orangutan habitats, razing the jungle to plant palm trees releases massive quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere.

I belive humans are a disease on this planet, a virus if you will. Its a mistake what our race has become and it should be fixed.
This planet is overpopulated with beings that dont give a damn about their surroundings. They are self obsessed and only care how to improve their own well being.
80-90% of humans should just be exterminated so the survivors can make this planet a better place and advance our civilisation. Or else we are all doomed
