@Haukur

I have a simlar way of dealing with them. Soap and water in a spray. Works well for all bugs especially green and black flies. Which are all over my roses.

I don't mine pests as long as they don't eat everything or the plant suffers.

This time last year my gooseberries were bare of any leaves as I found them too late lol. This year knew what I was looking for and caught then when they are tiny.

I'm also with you with and avoid any chemical pesticides etc. I like to use nature to help out.

Good luck with the extra beans. Not a veg I eat. ;)

1 of my rhubarb plants lost all of it's leaves. Which was odd.

Checked this morning and new leaves on their way. I thought it was dead. I may move it during Winter as it got smothered by the plant next to it.

Checked this morning and it has a nice new leaf on it.

Still not sure why it lost them all. Now it's getting full sun and planty of water.

Also Haukur I'm thinking of raspberry and blackberry bushes for next year. I like them and buy a lot of fruit so might as well save some pennys growing my own.

I've also been considering blackberry bushes. When is the best time of year to plant them?

Glad I discovered this thread... I know it's old but I don't venture to this forum often.

Anyways, I see the post above discussing pest control. I have my outdoor garden as well as numerous house plants. What do you all do to keep away those pesky meely bugs?! I can't even tell you how many plants I've lost to those.

I started treating my plants with Neem oil recently, but I'm curious if there are any other suggestions? I don't mind using pesticides, but I get satisfaction from not.

double post Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

Ok for mealy bugs, I use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, dawn dish soap, peppermint oil, and water. 1 part acv, 4 parts water, ten drops peppermint oil, 2 tbs. dawn dish soap.

As for blackberries. Early spring is the best time. Also remember you will need to prune them back every two to three years, or you will end up as I told Tuffty, something akin to the little shop of horrors with them.

I can't use Neem Oil as it's banned in the UK.

Neem oil is banned in the UK as a pesticide. Along with neem oil, the UK has also banned several other chemicals and pesticides that have proved fatal for human beings. In the United Kingdom, neem oil was used by applying a tablespoon into 5ml of water.

See banned as it's bad for you. So becareful. ;)

Thanks for that tip. I've been told it was good for your skin... I guess next time I'm outside working and get thirsty I'll do as I've always done and drink water and not reach for that Neem Oil. :P

Thanks! I'm saving that "recipe" to try out.

I know I've probably said this before but I live in an apartment which doesn't get a lot of light.

So what I need is a few plants in pots that dont need a lot of light.

Snake plants are a popular choice for their ability to tolerate lower light conditions indoors.
