When I say I advocate social justice, I don't refer to marginalising or revenge. This is why I personally would call them SRWs (social revenge warriors) rather than SJWs because they're not actually working towards or pushing social justice. Maybe their own ideas of justice, but that would be begging the question "What is/define justice?"

Well, one can define justice as "the quality of being fair and reasonable." However, this raises further questioning of what defines "fair" and "reasonable"? Which I'd say what's "fair and reasonable" has become a platitude, primarily because what others would see as "fair and reasonable", others would see as despotic.

Like...at what point does the concept of providing what is "fair and reasonable" become "preferential treatment", due to transgressions made by people who may not even be a part of this millennium, let alone this generation?

Hey guys,

Great thread, really nice to see this being discussed in such a sensible and friendly manner.

I would also like to say that I have hidden a few posts that were racist and intolerant, I've also hidden the comments linking and quoting it. If I've hidden your post, don't worry, I've just tried some of the abusive comments.

Thanks for being so understanding, and I look forward to seeing more of a discussion on this topic.

Cheers,

Mod Meadows.

Yesterday (Australian time) the law allowing same-sex couples to marry passed in parliament, without the extra religious freedom amendments certain conservatives were proposing. This is truly a historic day for the country and it won't be long until the GG puts his signature to it and it's done! !

If anybody saw any footage, you'd see that when parliamentarians were asked to move to the yes/no side, the building almost fell over.

(Left of picture: yes; right: no)

I believe there were four no-siders in total.

Fantastic day! Congrats to all :)

Empathy is a major factor. People listened to plights a lot more a couple of decades ago due to various persecutions, crimes, even killings of people just for being different in some way. For example Stephen Lawrence, a black man who was murdered at the age of 18 in a racially motivated attack while waiting for a bus back in 1993. This was among the highest profile racial killings in UK history, and it led to profound cultural changes to attitudes on racism and the police. It also changed law and police practice, and partial revocation of double jeopardy laws, before two of the perpetrators became convicted in 2012.

This along with other events led to increased empathy for others in general. However, there are people around who use this to their advantage or just whine for the sake of attention. And of course people who take things too far and complain about everything they can find which they can construe as unfair, who call for rules which would end up being strangleholds on the freedoms of everyone else. And on the other side of the spectrum you get discriminatory pigs.

Sorry for the late response.
