Let me clarify that I really do think society should do their best to protect everyone from barbarians. But the state is not the same as society. Most people define The State as "monopoly on the use of violence". Nobody has the right to initiate violence on anybody. There is only the right to self-defense.

The one who starts the fight is always guilty. But there are other ways to protect yourself than robbing your neighbour.
in that case our disagreement probably boils down to a libertarian vs. statist thing. other than that it seems like we have more points of agreement than I thought, so, apologies for any harshness on my part.

freedom of speech is how america was founded , somehow gave people of color the same rights as white people and created a capitalism society worldwide that has created more wealth then the world has ever seen .

so yeah lets keep free speech .

its not like we never seen what a govt does when they can censor the public from information and guns .

if you think for one second that censoring any type of speech is good, then ur the biggest idiot.

I think your making a few mistakes in your assumptions.

Good is referred to as an objective, moral choice rather than good being a subjective "works in my favor" sort of deal.

Secondly, I'll nip this in the bud. Your assuming my political stance and that I am American (due to the naming of specific Television hosts that represent ideas from the party you don't like?). Please don't, I find it somewhat insulting that you assume that other people don't have the ability to think outside of a polarized political landscape.

Back to free speech, if there's no line on what is acceptable with free speech. Then propaganda is objectively good and ok, just like the rest of free speech.
But manipulating people through propaganda isn't good, in my opinion.
So there exists a line at which freedom of speech is no longer good. The location of this line is not up to one person alone but the community/country/social group that they exist.

so basically someone cn just say ur spouting propaganda and they can cesnor you.

yeah ur clearly dumb as a rock lol

Haha you do seem rather mad. Posting on different threads just to insult me.

I can teach you how to do math if you really want, you just need to ask.

Means the govt can't jail you over unpopular ideas. It's nice to not have a annual shrinking list of what you are allowed to say without getting jailed.

Shouting fire in a crowded theater and fighting words have always been the exception.

People are usually hypocrites with the concept. You're free to say whatever until the firestorm of outrage emerges and the person is forced to bow their head in apology. So I don't the concept will ever actually work in reality.

Imagine having such a low self-esteem that, instead of trying to have a fruitful and intelligent discussion, you attack a person because you are too thin-skinned to consider an opposing view. All of that rage and anger in you isn't healthy, Ral. I'd recommend a therapist. ;)

Edit: I'm pretty sure we interpreted the text I quoted differently. From what it appears, we both support free speech (correct me if I'm wrong). I simply quoted that selection as it shows that, while many people advocate for free speech, they only do so when it doesn't oppose their held views/ ideology. Hence, free speech will never truly happen as there will always be someone who has their feels hurt and start some "feels movement" through social media (for example). This "feels movement" may lead to censorship down the line.

TL;DR: People like free speech until it offends them.

You should probably still see a therapist, though. All the best =)
