Dad, let me just say I applaud you for being brave and bringing up the unpopular ideas

But it isn't an unpopular idea? Quite the opposite. Its just the finer points such as whether it grants blanket immunity from anything and everything being said that is where it may start to get unpopular.

Well Dad said it is important that we have free speech. I agree with that.

Sorry if I misspoke.

Free speech means different things to different people in different countries, so I've tried to stay clear of this shitfest.
By all means, tell us what free speech means to you in your country.

"Last year the British people arrested 9 people a day for their thoughts online"

THIS is why free speech is important.

Free speech should be the same regardless of country; personally, everyone should model the US. There's not a lot of legitimate downsides to free speech.
The Army is a great experience; it sucks so much that literally nothing else will seem as bad in comparison.

In the US, people (often liberals) will fight to the teeth for their freedom of speech. But as soon as someone with an opposing opinion/better argument starts talking, they think it needs to be revoked. Or somehow put in a law which puts control over what people say and think.
Greetings. I'm Joe. I love games and game development.

Yeah, well when you can actually show us free speech in action, I might agree with you. Right now however, it is just a concept. It does not exist. In theory, yes. In reality, no. We have yet to see free speech truly exist so we don't actually know the upsides or downsides.

Free speech in action? You can express your views in the United States without worry of being punished by the government. Even if you're holding a KKK event, the government does not have the authority to shut down your speech based on what you are saying.

How is that not free speech in action?
