I'm not sure how exactly it is caused, but I think if I drink to excess I could get Alzheimer's in the future.

I hope not because my grandmother and grandfather both died with this disease or some type of dementia.

I am so thankful this thread is still here, Sorry I have been gone from the forums for so long, but been busy with my husband. On August 5th he was diaganosed with early stage alzhiemers. So each day the both of us, along with our daughters have been doing a daily video journal for him. That way when it reaches advanced, he will have something to try to help him.

I was devastated when our doctor gave us the news, and later that evening he brought up the video journal idea.
Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

That's really sad news Averia Light :( I'm sorry for your loss
Haukur, I'm so sorry you and your family have had such awful news. :( The video journal sounds like a great idea.
Alzhiemers is a cruel disease because it slowly takes away the person you know and love while leaving their body behind. We can hope that eventually the person isn't aware of how they've changed so they aren't too distressed. The same can't be said for their family and friends. They need to cling to their memories of how their loved one used to be and try not to let the person's new behaviour replace those memories.
I don't know anything about the differences between the various types of dementia, I hear/read more about Alzheimers than the others. They are all horrible illnesses.

I really don't have encouraging words to share, but you are absolutely doing the right thing. In the end, those videos will be for you. I don't feel guilt over not trying or abandoning her because I know I didn't. It just hurts so bad because she didn't deserve it.

And nor does your husband. Treasure these moments and even when he can't do something, you can still paint, play cards or do whatever with them just you may have to help them a little.

Unfortunately, I think they are aware that something is off, so they are scared and confused but it doesn't come out coherently (or eventually just as noises).

All we can do is make sure they don't go through it alone.

It's been quite some time since this thread was stickied, so we're adding some glue to this important topic for a week.

Yesterday was a bad for us. He had a melt down at the grocery store because he forgot what we where going there for. I think what truely pissed me off, was the look that we got from several people.

One clerk was very understanding, and helped sooth things over.
