Tuffty,

whatever you decide I'm sure is best. I'm just annoyed at having known merchants' prices, people who have merched for 10+ years, excluded when they are obviously real. I'm mad at "the community" not at you, not at Jagex.

I'm not annoyed at the deleted posts. I didn't even see what was written. I'm annoyed at known merchants being labeled manips when they aren't.

Price lists have never been exactly accurate, but they were based on real reported trades. Once a new update or two changed that range, you updated the range. Or, you excluded a price as an outlier, though still real.

And prices might rebound. Maybe they already have. But anyone trading knows that desperate sellers sell for very cheap in this market, just as desperate buyers will overpay.

I don't think there's anything you can or should do. This just seems to be the thread to post in. And I'm not sure I like any of the current lists. At least one was too low.

No one person is going to want that responsibility or put in the time and/or effort. Nor would anyone want one person to have that sort of control over a thread.

Its a few minutes every few days, I would do it, and I did, but my thread got locked.

The second point is a fair point though. However, it would become apparent, very quickly, if the thread owner was not posting all valid trades to the first page. So I disagree that the thread owner has too much control.

Counter to point one - is it really just a few minutes every few days? They'd need to update EVERY thread with EVERY sell/buy, wouldn't they? That isn't a small feat. Furthermore, I don't know your real-life situation, but many people have a family, kids, a job - well, 'responsible, mature' people (in the sense of the word), and honestly, one I am more likely to trust to be ethical over say, a 16/17-year-old who is too invested in a computer game. These players go on holiday, get bogged down with work/family etc, and will likely forget to update/cant update. This will quickly lead to people jumping all over the thread to hijack it as the 'OP can't be bothered to update'. It'll cause a right mess, and we'll be right back at square one.

I honestly believe all discontinued item threads and ranges should just be shut-down completely (ALL of them), and players left to form their own opinions. This is effectively the disclaimer plastered all over their PC's - "this is just a guide, blah blah blah". If that is true, why do we even need the threads?

I do have fears more manipulation will spread to lower rares as this is mostly
helpful for items over max cash. Obviously i still want to be able to post my trades
from the G E and not just person to person.
A system showing G E trades in real time (items over a certain price only)
would be amazing but not totally waterproof against manipulation.
Also im not sure how much work a system like this would take to make.
Im really tired so cant really think of anything else at this point. :O

Support and glad this discussion is going.

I think both your positions are a bit extreme S1MON and Zee.

I don't think we should get rid of something that has possibility to work because of few sad people trying their best to derail it or using it as an avenue to manipulate.

We feel helpless mainly because Jagex does not have resources to allocate to us to help us with this issue, and forum mods themselves have to follow forum guidelines that favour the bad people and not the ones trying to make a change.

I'll respond to some points Zee made in detail as soon as I find some time, but I thank everyone on this thread of their insights and valuable inputs.

Special shoutout to Trip180 for playing devil's advocate, but ALWAYS being a gentleman because that perspective needs to be heard too.

Also, to Tuffty for always being fair and supporting positive changes to forums and caring about the game as a player as well as moderator.

Surprised.

Anyone else notice the increase of throwaway accounts looking to buy rares? They typically make their own threads, or reply in other threads with their discord. Upon adding them, they're looking to pay $$$ for your rares.

Why is this a thing?

@Jagex

Please do not allow users to post their discord id's when doing trades in this section of the forum. Please ask/allow your Local moderators/Forum moderators to delete posts/threads that contain a discord id.

Ive dealt with this situation first hand in my clan discord.
This is a 0 tolerance policy for me. person got banned from the discord. unfortunatly we couldnt track the ingame username and the discord player was using an alias.

the only thing i can recommend is to never add strangers to your friendlist or in a discord you own if you know that they are not part of your clan/ you dont know the player ingame. if they keep pushing you should block the discord player so he cant message you anymore. also i recommend to copy his discord ID and run it around the big discords so he/she gets banned on those too. thats all you can do i think.
trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.
