I don't know, maybe because it is a phat? It is funny that everybody that merch phat for a living (because that is basically what they do in rs apparently) say it won't have an impact. Just by looking at how many phat trades have been reported recently in the Discontinued Item Status you can tell the impact the announcement has had, let alone the release. But it could only be me making things up

It is still very different by every single aspect from original partyhats.
I would disagree, I actually saw a lot of people who merch for living like you say claiming that they will have impact so they can buy real partyhats for much lower price.
Partyhats started dropping after duel arena cap/removal and some prices of yellow and green partyhats are fabricated from newly created accounts with 1 or 2 posts.
I could care less, just stating some facts. My honest opinion about gold one will not change.
I still think it will be very common but price should stay relatively high because a lot of people who do the event will keep it for themself so they won't really be that much in circulation plus hoarders will do their part.
Idea of gold partyhats and gold santas are great but I'm not too sure is this the way to do it.
I would personally make them much rarer or limited because term 'partyhat' should not be devalued by any means.
