How would it have any affect on the economy? The world of Runescape growing bigger and looking more real would not affect the economic trade in RS at all.

All we are asking for is a world that looks a little more realistic. At least, scale up the walls to look real. Our clan citadels are higher and wider than Falador's. If my avatar could extend a reach over his head, he could climb up them without a mithril grapple!

The argument is that scaling up Runescape will increase the distances between resources and banks, meaning players take longer to run between the two. This means that resources are gathered at a slower overall rate, so there are less of them entering the game, so prices will go up...

...but given the number of teleports, bank deposit boxes, and various ways of banking remotely that have been introduced that make this game so easy and devalue everything (BoBs, signs and portents, magic notepaper, etc.), is this really a bad thing?...

...This also doesn't take into account that a larger world means more space, which potentially means more resources, bank deposit boxes, teleportation destinations, and new methods of travel, all of which would compensate for the increased distances.

It wouldn't. Anyone that says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. Upscaling the map does nothing to the economy. It'll make teleports more useful I suppose .. but that's about it. As far as resources go; a lot of resources come from bossing & TH nowadays.

I heard they were looking at dramatically reducing resource drop rates from monsters.

I know they are looking to reduce the amount of runes dropped from monsters as part of the 'make runes valuable' update. Do you have a source for any other resource drop rate reductions?

It wasn't something I read, just heard it from 2 or 3 people.

I wish they would scale it up.
Lets be honest, back when runescape was that tiny box the game felt "large" but now we have full screen and large resolutions allowing for more camera area.
Html5 make it look like my back yard.

Also I hate how cramped all the content is, stupid that you wander around and find something that makes no sense to be there. (I am looking at you death's portal)

At least a large expansion between areas.

To be honest, that was one of my biggest concerns. That increasing the game world would affect the economy. It may not be that affected considering how players are obtaining items these days.
This is a dying game. Everything about it is just gaining XP and levels for a stupid cape, it's not about the unlocks. The skills are broken, combat system is dull and repetitive. And the MTX...lol.
