The magic of RS has always been missing its cornerstone piece - a fully immersive, explorable world that connects the game to its lore. What you see in forum's background is what RS could, and should, be.
There has been many a suggestion on expanding the entire game world. That is exactly what RS needs, and what I'm thinking about is also making RS similar to, for example, Skyrim:
Areas separated by "gates".
For those that have played Skyrim (I'm sure most of you are), cities are separated from the surrounding wilderness by gates. In order to enter or exit the city, one would need to enter a gate that "transfers" the player to a different section of the game, effectively separating the contents of the city from the outside world. That would mean the current bland, mundane walls of Falador and Varrock can be effectively phased out, and in their place a majestic city suitable for the epicness of RS can be erected without disturbing the proportions of the game too greatly.
All in short, an "illusion of space", if you will. Any complications about lag can be resolved this way, I think. Different areas of the world can also implement the same mechanism too.
With this, the outside wilderness can be worked out and expanded with no hindrance to the existence of the many cities and villages of RS. Not to mention worlds can also be reduced, since the gaming world is so expansive. Just think of the possibilities: Giant trees and forests, grand rivers and lakes, dark, dank swamps with an atmosphere of animosity, coupled with a dynamic environment that would surely enhance the controversial EoC. Ahhh ecstasy for the imaginative mind.
Free roam. Some have already suggested this; the blocky gameplay of RS is its staple (think safespots and AI that would always sidestep like hipsters), but can be restricting in some ways. I am not exactly sure what should be done about this, and would like to see what other ideas you guys have.
I am welcome to change. +1.
This will only hurt a little bit...
