Yeah this would be amazing. It would make the game feel so much more real and exciting - it's way too easy to get around nowadays - there should be some challenge. Also it would help make the lore feel more realistic - e.g. if the elf lands really were cut off by some mountains, rather than just some really really small hills.

Maybe if they made the distances 2X greater for everything? They wouldn't even have to fill the cities with more content; just maybe houses for people to live in etc.

x2 distance? That's dismal. This may seem extreme, but I want to see the world scaled up by about 30x-50x in every direction. Think about it - this would mean that Varrock would be 50x bigger, like an actual settlement in proportion to your character! This would mean that the distance between every village and town would be increased by a factor of 50x. Falador would be 50 times farther away from Varrock than it is today - a trip could possibly take up to an hour without a mount or the use of fast travel lodestones. All that space in between population centers would be unexplored, but lush wilderness bountiful in resources. Exploration would go from a forced roleplay activity to an unofficial skill. Throw in day/night cycles, aggressive monsters spawning rarely in uninhabited areas at night, and randomly generated daemonheim style dungeons and Gielinor would be a wondrously vast and dangerous but rewarding realm to traverse. Meeting another player would be (hopefully) a rare luxury. Sure it would seem empty and lonely at first, but it would build the foundation for another decade of Runescape content.

EDIT: Heh, funny the guy above me posted that while I was typing this up. That's pretty much what I want to see. This would bring forth so much potential. I really hope Jagex seriously considers undertaking a project like this. I want to explore a worl

Honestly, right now, the map for "the West" is not only small and cluster, it is extremely geographically ugly. Heck, it's just a giant blob. .____. I say we do everything that was already said plus fixed the entire continent -- split it right down the middle or something! The story will be a giant earthquake split the continent and reshaped it. There will also be much smaller islands off the coasts to make it look more natural. We'll call it...Runescape 3 -- Cataclysm. (;

How is an hour of travel between every place you want to go fun.

I think the size of the world is fine, you don't need cities way bigger then they are now just so you can have more empty buildings in them then they already have. Or 30 minutes of walking distance between areas for you to go crazy from bordem trying to get to godwars, or KK etc. a bigger map just means more people will want closer and closer fast travel areas to each and every useful place so everything in between will just get bypassed anyways.

The magic of RS has always been missing its cornerstone piece - a fully immersive, explorable world that connects the game to its lore. What you see in forum's background is what RS could, and should, be.

There has been many a suggestion on expanding the entire game world. That is exactly what RS needs, and what I'm thinking about is also making RS similar to, for example, Skyrim:

Areas separated by "gates".

For those that have played Skyrim (I'm sure most of you are), cities are separated from the surrounding wilderness by gates. In order to enter or exit the city, one would need to enter a gate that "transfers" the player to a different section of the game, effectively separating the contents of the city from the outside world. That would mean the current bland, mundane walls of Falador and Varrock can be effectively phased out, and in their place a majestic city suitable for the epicness of RS can be erected without disturbing the proportions of the game too greatly.

All in short, an "illusion of space", if you will. Any complications about lag can be resolved this way, I think. Different areas of the world can also implement the same mechanism too.

With this, the outside wilderness can be worked out and expanded with no hindrance to the existence of the many cities and villages of RS. Not to mention worlds can also be reduced, since the gaming world is so expansive. Just think of the possibilities: Giant trees and forests, grand rivers and lakes, dark,dank swamps with an atmosphere of animosity, coupled with a dynamic environment that would surely enhance the controversial EoC. Ahhh ecstasy for the imaginative mind.

Free roam. Some have already suggested this; the blocky gameplay of RS is its staple (think safespots and AI that would always sidestep like hipsters), but can be restricting in some ways. I am not exactly sure what should be done about this, and would like to see what other ideas you guys have.

I am welcome to change. +1.
This will only hurt a little bit...
