I would like to see new landscapes developed, much wider rivers, mountain ranges, sheer cliffs, narrow mountain passes, a real coastline etc.

Some of the "filler" space could also be made up with city expansions, as well as adding new trees and fields.

This is why I believe, and still do believe that RuneScape 3 should have been a new game. Brand new engine, brand new graphics, brand new start. They are right, there is so much effort and consideration involved in scaling the land up it is scary.

If I was Jagex I would simply graphically update all areas as they are, including mountains, giving them the illusion of size. I would then focus new effort on brand new lands. A whole new continent featuring much more realistically sized landscape. It's not the best idea, but it is the most realistic one.

Mod Pips answer to a similar question during his AMA on reddit :

We're considering it but it requires a massive update to move everything around and keep all of the content working, and I'm not sure it's worth the effort (we could be using that time to do cool new content!

So nothing is really guaranteed.

we dont get worthwhile content anyway so might aswell do expansion...

in the time they did the useless lumbridge war thing they couldve expanded instead.

The map is getting rather cluttered up now. I personally would like to see it made bigger. If people complain about the distance between areas, they can just add more teleports, since most of our magic teleports are useless now after loadstones.
The Catcher in the Rye caught a Catch-22.

I've been wanting to suggest this. My thought is that with large spaces between major areas they could build in a random resource functionality so while you travel you could encounter random creatures and resources. This would make the game less static and crowded while allowing access to training and resources that aren't camped/botted.

Yeah this would be amazing. It would make the game feel so much more real and exciting - it's way too easy to get around nowadays - there should be some challenge. Also it would help make the lore feel more realistic - e.g. if the elf lands really were cut off by some mountains, rather than just some really really small hills.

Maybe if they made the distances 2X greater for everything? They wouldn't even have to fill the cities with more content; just maybe houses for people to live in etc.

x2 distance? That's dismal. This may seem extreme, but I want to see the world scaled up by about 30x-50x in every direction. Think about it - this would mean that Varrock would be 50x bigger, like an actual settlement in proportion to your character! This would mean that the distance between every village and town would be increased by a factor of 50x. Falador would be 50 times farther away from Varrock than it is today - a trip could possibly take up to an hour without a mount or the use of fast travel lodestones. All that space in between population centers would be unexplored, but lush wilderness bountiful in resources. Exploration would go from a forced roleplay activity to an unofficial skill. Throw in day/night cycles, aggressive monsters spawning rarely in uninhabited areas at night, and randomly generated daemonheim style dungeons and Gielinor would be a wondrously vast and dangerous but rewarding realm to traverse. Meeting another player would be (hopefully) a rare luxury. Sure it would seem empty and lonely at first, but it would build the foundation for another decade of Runescape content.

EDIT: Heh, funny the guy above me posted that while I was typing this up. That's pretty much what I want to see. This would bring forth so much potential. I really hope Jagex seriously considers undertaking a project like this. I want to explore a world like the one depicted in the website background artwork.

i would love it if runescape was scaled up say if it was like syrim size that would be absolutely awsome

If they could at least apply it to the cities of Runescape that would be awesome. I like how all the elder scrolls games have really large, interactive cities. The main cities of Runescape are pretty bland and aren't really worth visiting unless you need a bank or are doing a quest.
