Why do you people keep bleating like sheep about "Java can't handle an expanded world, HTML5 will fix everything"?
I'm sorry but it won't. Java is one of the more powerful and efficient coding languages available for the browser. It is fully capable of running an expanded word. The only thing holding it back is Jagex's lazy programming and the frankenstein's monster of a game engine we have. I remember a dev blog from last year that mentioned
there is still code in the game from 2004 when RS2 was first released!
Jagex have been hacking and sawing and updating bits and pieces all over the place, and none of the stuff they are changing quite fits in with the rest.
It is like a car. Imagine you buy an old car from the 80's. First you buy a whole new modern engine for it, but keep the old chasis for it. "This is still the old car" you say. Then you upgrade the seats. "Still the same car, just with new seats and engine" you say. Then a door falls off and you get half the chasis upgraded. "Still the same old car". Then you get all the suspension and safety features upgraded. "Still the same old car". Then you upgrade the rest of the chasis and absolutely nothing remains from the old car except the boot lining.
"Still the same old car" you keep on saying, despite the fact that nothing from the 80's remains except the boot lining.
That is what has happened to the Runescape code-base. Nothing really quite fits together.
It is not the fault of Java and HTML5 will not fix it.
