It's likely been mentioned here, but It is unlikely we get a new skill any time soon.

Jagex polled the community a few years back, and players made it abundantly clear that they wanted new skills only to be every 3-4 years, and only after several old skill reworks had been accomplished between new skills.

So we likely won't see the next skill for a few years and not until after they've reworked several older, underperforming skills first.

While that is true, I'm not too worried. It's been a year since Archaeology, and Jagex is aware of the high demand for Woodcutting/Fletching and Crafting/Runecrafting to get their own versions of the Mining/Smithing rework. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they decided to rework those skills and to push a new skill out sometime around 2024-2025.

I know there's a lot of demand for reworks for Construction and Agility too, but considering how highly requested a Ranged and Magic combat gear rework was in 2019's year-end survey, that it's honestly a bit of a terrible look in the eyes of the new players they're hoping to draw in with their plans for making RuneScape multiplatform for only one side of the Combat Triangle to be reworked, especially two years after the fact, and that maintaining some semblance of parity between said sides is instrumental in keeping combat balanced, I feel like it's likely those skills get reworked before Construction and Agility do.

I must say I am open to new skills when they actually provide some kind of value, that couldn't just be added to some other kind of content - archaeology did this wonderfully. Likewise I would be open for extending skills to 120 levels, that are able to make good use of their current 99 levels - herblore and farming did an extremely good job there, slayer did it decently, but certainly not great - but hey, at least it has more justification to be a level 120 skill, than the one, which introduced that concept in the first place.

But other than that I would prefer them focusing their energy on fixing broken level up tables - while mining/smithing were the worst offenders, that basically is an issue for most gathering/artisan skills and giving certain skills a more distinct role - especially looking at fletching in that aspect - the skill basically was useless before the introduction of scrimshaws and higher levelled ammunition. That doesn't need to be a full rework - just bring level requirements down to adequate levels (which crafting already did for a couple of things) and add some new features (something like those incense sticks for firemaking, which gave that skill some kind of use).
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

how about tailoring? we can make fancy outfits that serve no purpose and is a money suck.

would be more entertaining than the garbage skills of fletching, firemaking, agility, woodcutting & construction which literally serve no purpose in the entire game

I think the best thing for Jagex to do is rotate between adding a new skill and reworking an existing one.

We all know Jagex's release schedule today is nothing like the release schedule they had back in the early to late 2000s. Why should their skill release/rework schedule be any different?

The Mining/Smithing Rework was a tremendous success and it was followed by Archaeology, which in my opinion is a worthy addition to the game. I'm in favour of Jagex reworking the Construction skill next because it's outdated and filled with old code that threatens the long-term health and stability of the game.

Jagex said themselves that reworking an existing skill is as resource intensive as implementing a new one. Might as well rework Construction into something truly spectacular to match RS3. During that time, we can wait and see if anybody can come up with a convincing idea for a new skill. Based on what I've seen in this thread, I'm not convinced we've hit gold yet.

The new elite skill will need

80 crafting
80 cooking
80 construction

And maybe
80 farming

It will all take place inside your player owned house
You will have to tend to your garden, cook 3 meals a day,
And mend and wash clothes.

Welcome to
the next elite skill

HOUSEKEEPING

"Just call on Dr. Cleanup..." The healing arts . it can already include several of the other skills, of course; herblore, invention, smithing/mining, divination, magic ,prayer and constitution.

New outfits, new spells, new div, new potions, new tools..etc. etc. It might even help constitution level up a smidge easier.

Don't have exact details but if the Dr. would just give me the news...I might just have a bad case of loving it.

BUT, before another skill comes along and we have to get 120 in everything...I would reaaallly like to see construction updated. I still have RS2 magic trees in my home. O_o

I will mention one that has been made into a full fledged thread. It has also been mentioned here. It is the Music skill. You can look it up if you like. This has so much potential that everyone will seem to enjoy.

How would it work and what would be the point?

Think of it like a Bard class in some games.
